Tuesday and Wednesday Seedlings

last year
last modified: last year

Since no one commented on Tuesday's seedlings, I added some Wednesday seedlings to the post.

Aztec Headdress X Banded Broadbill on ffo had more blue in the eye than I've seen in the past - must be the cool morning.

Stinger X Razor Sharp had particularly good color today.

Unknown X Unknown ffe - The tag is lost on this one. It's either Queen of Narnia X (Inimitable X Moonlit Caress) or (Zuzu's Treasure X Dearest Valentine #2) X Arctic Lace. The bloom is just a little over 6 inches.

Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper #1

"Leonard" X Bat King #2 - This is similar to #1 of this cross that I posted a couple of days ago except the bloom is larger. I missed it during my morning photo session, but saw it in the evening and photographed it then.

American Doll X Bubblegum Queen 1 - It's a few inches taller than last year, but still a short one. It's one of the few BQ kids that has not increased fans since the first bloom last year, maybe because it's shaded too much by taller seedlings.

Pink Lemonade Party X Bubblegum Queen 2 - One of the few BQ kids with a soft pink color

This is a Tuxedo Junction seedling that I lined out for possible registration three years ago. This clump is the only one of it with tall scapes and good bud count. The others are very short and have few buds. I suspect grubs got to all the others. In any case, this seedling has been inconsistent over the years, and I will not be registering it. I doubt that it will make the cut for the move. Kate grows this one.

Perseus Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash had its ffo yesterday with multiple blooms. Aerial Applique is on the side. This was an end-of-the-day photo.

Just bumping it up since I don't think anyone saw it. Also I added some of today's photos to the post.

The Forty Days seedling seems to have good height and a more interesting color than Forty Days. The Stinger seedling has a nice edge. Most of the Hansen cultivars that were test grown at Crintonic had some nice flowers, but didn't seem to be flourishing--low bud count and multiplication.

Mantis - I like the Forty Days seedling too, but it is an evergreen. I wish it had the dormancy of Forty Days. It's too bad the Hansens don't flourish at Crintonic, since there are many Hansens I'd like to take with me, especially his reds and Absolute Ripper. The Forty Days seedling has a 7.5 inch bloom on 31-inch scapes. The bud count is not impressive - only 10-12 buds this time. It is multiplying OK. The Stinger seedling is also an evergreen, despite having two semi-evergreen parents. It doesn't have great bud count either, but it is growing in back of taller daylilies.

My laptop's been 'down for the count' (it had a virus) so I switched over to my backup laptop. Unfortunately, there is something wrong with it and it shuts down when I go on the internet. I got the good one back this morning so I have some catching up to do.

As usual, you are showing some lovely seedlings. It's too bad that your Tuxedo Junction seedling has been inconsistent. It really has a nice color and shape. The Perseus' Sandals seedling is my favorite today. I like the way the blooms are held high above the foliage. The green throat and pinched petals are nice too. I like the eye on the clean petal color of the Aztec Headdress seedling and the 'blue' eye on the purple flower of the Stinger seedling. Overall, a beautiful group!

The unknown x unknown seedling catches my eye as I like near whites spread about the garden. I like the color on the American Doll seedling. Tuxedo Junction seedling has always performed great for me although it is another one that will not bloom this year (do you see the numbers growing in this category?)

Nan - Glad your laptop is working again! Thanks for your comments on the seedlings!

Kate - I love everything about the American Doll seedling, except its slow multiplying and the fact it's an evergreen. I find the Unknown seedling very pleasant - just wish I knew its parentage for sure. Did the bugs get to the Tuxedo Junction seedling?

Debra, I love your near white unknown.

Debra, Perseus Sandals X Jumping Jack Flash is a nice dark tall & large one!! I like it. I also like the soft pink Pink Lemonade Party X Bubblegum Queen 2 and the unknown one. Both have nice form and the coloring of the unknown is very nice.

Yes, Debra, bugs got to every bud on all plants in that small bed. Other than a small bed next to my house and most in my big ”new” front bed, all other beds have been decimated

Kate - How horrible that the bug damage is so widespread! It wasn't quite this bad last year, was it?

Brad and jkayd - Thanks so much for the love for the near white seedling!

Brad - The Perseus Sandals seedling is down on buds for the second year running. I will definitely keep it, but I don't know that I'll ever register it, if I don't see bud counts of 16 and 17 again. It is striking and sunfast and can rebloom if it gets enough water.

Absolutely love this one. Forty Days and Forty Nights X Absolute Ripper #1 . There isn't a bloom in my garden that gets as much comment as Perseus Sandals X Kumping Jack Flash! It is such a wonderful bloom and the colors are so good. And it has bloomed like a champion too.Love it! That White seedling is a beauty. maybe it just needs a good talking to. That worked with Joan Senior.
