I like the current color, which makes it blend into the walls. Your fireplace has a lot of movement, your furniture is very eye catching. I think it is best for the staircase to sort of disappear into the background instead of it competing for attention with other features of the room.

^Agree. Leaving the current color seems more understated and calming.

"On the other hand".....doing them black would give a nice "pop" to the area.

If you paint the splindles then I think you have to consider painting all the metal of the staircase the same color.

IMO leave it as is . I do not think either of those colors will be better . I guess maybe we nned to know why you are painting at all. nI do agree to remove the wreath and honestly a throw with pillow on top of it is "decor " that is not good . I hope those areal flowers on thta table or they too need to go. Often less is more in a space and I think bringing attention to the spiral stairs will be too much

I think changing the spiral staircase color could go either way. Would you change the tread carpet too? I would change the rug to something not so busy, and when budget allows change the floor to vinyl or laminate plank.
