I know how you feel. I had a huge Peace standard, and I gave it away on a neighborhood site.

It's one of those where I suppose you won't know until you grow it ....sorta thing. I like adding -lollipops- here and there just so it's something different in height, shape, eye-height, etc.....but 1st flush, then it rains, sometimes the bloms shatter too quick. Then I feel like it's more foliage than appeal for the rest of the season.....sure, I will get a 2nd, 3rd and maybe 4th flush, but it's nothing like the 1st flush and the 2nd and 3rd is often heat soaked...

Like all things gardening, I suppose it's experimentation.

I found that floribundas and other small roses are really the only ones that do well as standards. And max. 3 foot trunks. Even 2 foot is good, since I grow them in pots. My all-time best standards were two Gourmet Popcorns, which I had for a really long time. But even they deteriorated over the years. The only one I have left is a 2 foot standard of Shockwave, which I let General Sikorski grow into.

With all things -standards-, I actualy would prefer ideally 42" minmum. Not in the realm of roses , but for examle, Limelight Trees. Grafted vs. Natural *tops*. Grafted is faster production . More often at all the local nurseries, it seems lke they are 30-32 ince trunks. IMO, too short and it too -squat-. Would mind another foot so it looks more -tree like-. Granted rose trees we're discussing is more a ornamental tree......but still prefer a higher stem that what is out there
