I found a few more scapes eaten here and there by deer, but luckily no entire clumps overnight. In looking at the buds and branching on emerging scapes, it looks like few that did well last year have many buds this time. The best budded and branched cultivars in the garden so far are Clown Parade and Twentieth Century Fox. Serrated Sentinel, which had bud counts in the mid-20s last year has just started to show its buds. It has some lateral branching again, but it doesn't look like it has as many branches as last time. Most of the early daylilies just have 8 or 9 buds.

By the way, I have sold my house and I have 90 days to close. The next step will be to buy a smaller house than I currently have in Indianapolis. The only requirement: the yard must have enough sun to grow daylilies.

Here are some of the blooms I saw on my garden walk today:

Bubblegum Delicious really is bubblegum pink right now. Most years it's much lighter in the heat. But the cool night temps and rain earlier in the week have it looking the right color. This is one of my very favorite pinks. I hope it will grow in the North.

Sensational Heart had its ffo today. The scapes are 40 inches tall again, but it doesn't have the lateral branching in showed last year.

Wonder of It All finally had a bloom that opened flat today. It's had 10 other blooms this week that could not open properly.

Browns Ferry Debutante ffo - It's good to see it having tall scapes this year!

Such A Blaze - Here's a better photo of it than the one I posted yesterday. I'm glad to see the scapes are taller than they've been the previous two years. Some of the scapes will be 26-27 inches this time where they've been 20-22 past years. It's registered as having 30-inch scapes.

Jurassic Pink X Bubblegum Queen 2 ffe- This one did not bloom last year. It is quite a bit taller than its sibling, but it doesn't multiply as well. It has a 7-inch bloom on a 32-inch scape.

Seedling X Royal Invitation - I like the colors but the bloom is small - 5.25 inches. It does have some lateral branching and has multiplied better than its two siblings.

White Tooth X Skater 2L ffo - I don't know what's up with this one. It's always bloomed ML before.

Congrats on selling the house. Do you have a particular part of Indianapolis that you are interested in? My daughter lives in the northeast suburb of Fishers.

Such beauties today. I think the star of the show is Princess Diary X Dearest Valentine (it's a beautiful color and I love the watermark and edge), but I also like Sensational Heart and the Seedling X Royal Invitation.

Nan - This is the last year I will see Princess Diary X Dearest Valentine. The bloom is prettier this season than its ever been, but it's an evergreen that doesn't multiply well, so it's getting tossed in July - unless someone else wants it. The seedling hasI only two fans after four years.

I love the color on Sensational Heart and Such a Blaze. I like the Princess Diary seedling as well. Browns Ferry Debutante is a nice pink.

Kate - Those two reds are very nice ones. I want to take both to Indianapolis with me. I'm not sure if I'm taking Browns Ferry Deb or not. I do like it, but not as well as many of my other pinks.

Congrats on selling your home. I'm sure you are a bit overwhelmed with all that has to happen for the move plus taking care of your garden.Many decisions both on the household side and garden on what to take and what to leave behind. Been there and done that. You have a good support on the other end which should help immensley.

The daylilies look very good. Your seedlings are always a special treat to see. I tend to look at the form and color since I'm not into registering daylilies. I'm still waiting here for the first daylily blooms to open.

Julia - It's much easier to decide what to leave behind on the household side - almost everything. I plan to buy some new furniture for my new house. Most of the furniture is old and mismatched, and some of it we bought secondhand. But the daylilies/seedlings are the possessions I value most. So I will be taking a lot of those with me - bare root rather than potting. I'm only taking in pots some evergreens and newer daylilies that are already potted. I plan to keep the potted evergreens in either a garage or basement over winter.

Wow! Your house sold pretty quickly, and you are moving home which makes it easier I would think. It will be fun to get new furniture and I am sad for you to leave behind plants you have nourished and especially your beautiful seedlings that you can't take with you. All of the blooms are beautiful and, as usual the Skater one grabs me so but
Princess Diary X Dearest Valentine is lovely.

Kay - Yes, I think moving to a place where you have friends and relatives makes a move easier. And I will rejoin the church where I was a member as a teenager. Several of my high school/church friends still attend there, as well as my old youth group leader. They were my biggest supporters with cards and email messages over the winter when I was missing my husband so much. Also I'm moving to an area where I know many of the shopping and eating places.

I'm surprised how many people mentioned the Princess Diary X Dearest Valentine seedling. The color and edge are fabulous, but it hasn't multiplied that much, likely because of grub predation. It's too bad I can't take all the seedlings with me. They ARE like my children.

Being able to reconnect is truly a wonderful help. High School friends and church friends are efor life really and that will be so nice.

There were too many changes in your life for comfort with the cancer and losing your other half. I am glad you have an old home place with friends to settle in around.

And you can please yourself with the house choice and the furnishings too which can be fun.

Leaving some of your cherished seedlings will be hard. Parcel out the favorites among us to keep them going. and it may be that some will do well that you wonder about.
