I was just looking at our large Wayfair rug the other day, wondering if I'd order it again. I love the print and it's easy to vacuum. It's a really low pile, almost velvety and nearly flat. My issue is that in two high-traffic areas that pattern looks smushed, for lack of a better word. The pattern is busy so it's not really noticeable but it makes me wonder about durability. On the plus side, it was REALLY cheap so I don't have any regrets about wasting money.

@deegw - your situation reminds me of a rug I ordered for my dining room many years ago - when we shopped mail order catalogs. I can't remember where I got it from. I probably had the rug for at least 15 years. Since we didn't use the dining room regularly, I didn't notice how the rug had worn down until we moved out of that house. Weird wear in one rather large spot - down to the mesh backing - very strange.

For less expensive rugs sold across many sites, I look for Safavieh, Loloi, Surya, Karastan, and Jaipur. I’ve had good experiences and am pleased with all of them — for me and others I help with decorating (family, friends).

Thanks Jilly - that's helpful. I have a Safavieh rug now and it's nice enough - got it at HD. Bought that in another situation where I needed a specific size/color that I had a hard time finding. The design consultant I worked with where I bought my furniture suggested a Surya rug. It looked great with the furniture fabric but it wasn't catproof. Supposedly she's still looking for a rug but I think she may have forgotten about me.

Pros and cons and Indont have one but see the ads for Ruggable. There are also other brands that do washable.

In your case, I would want something I could wash. I'd store one to back and forth.

@eld6161 - yeah, I've looked at Ruggables a bit but not for my living room rug. I just don't see myself washing an 8x10 or 9x12 rug. I spot clean as needed and have professionally cleaned once in a while .

I have a 6x9 Ruggable and have washed it in my regular size top loader. There wasn't a lot of room for it to swish around but it came out clean. I think next time I'll take it to the laundromat where they have larger washers. I would definitely consider getting an 8x10 Ruggable for my living room. My cats always seek rugs and carpets on which to barf, rather than hardwood or tile. It's a fact of life with cats.

Have you looked at the new Tumble rugs? I have no experience with them, but they are a washable rug like Ruggable (which I do own), except that they have some kind of an impenetrable coating which makes it much easier to quickly clean up messes.

Okay - I checked Tumble and the choices were very limited - nothing that would work for me. I also looked at Ruggable and found one possible option there that I'll keep on my list.

Ah, the heating vents. May I also add kitchen counter, computer desk, the couch, and window sills.

Even outside — the neighbor’s cats use my outdoor rug as the vomit landing strip after they’ve consumed who knows what. They have the whole dang yard, but no, the rug is the chosen spot. :D

They prefer a nice, soft, cushy surface on which to park themselves while they hurl.

Every once in awhile I succumb to Wayfair and I was happy with a jute runner rug I bought recently. However, shipping things back to them is a pain and if you can get it somewhere else I would.

I've bought some nice rugs from A-zon. I like that I can return things from there to Whole Foods.

I also bought 2 large rugs from Esale rugs. Kept the one I liked and they made the return of the other one super easy.

I found that there is very little that is really only sold by one vendor so if you do find something you like, for sure order in the small size, but look online to see who else carries it. I found with my bathroom, for whatever reason I had very good experience ordering form HD. The delivery was fine, and the t hings I needed to return were not a big issue at all and they are extremely easy to deal with.

Several years ago I ordered furniture from Wayfair and it was going to be such a production to return it ( and not free) that we kept it after they gave a price adjustment. I would really ratherhave gotten a perfect item than the lower price. I hesitate ordering from Wayfiar for that reason.

Any place that I can return in person ( or UPS Whole Foods etc) is preferable.

I don't mean that there's anything wrong with Wayfair but it's not so easy when something isn't right.

I sooooooooooooo relate! I have 2 cats. I have a rag rug that can be thrown into the laundry, it cleans up well or .....................Oriental rugs are so tightly woven...that works well....and they're a dark color. Navy blue for instance.

I'll check A'zon for the one I saw at Wayfair. I think there's only one that might actually be the right color based on the reviews. No way would I pay for return shipping to Wayfair for a large rug. I did buy a rug once from eSaleRugs. They readily took it back with no additional charge for return shipping but getting it back in the wrapper was a huge PITA.

Nicole - yes I also have a very nice, dense, navy, wool oriental rug and nothing permeates that thing - very easy cat barf cleanup.

I used to have a certain perception (negative, frankly) of Wayfair, but I have realized that they have a very broad range of offerings (read: pricepoints) so it is hard to generalize. I would say, however, that their return policies are cumbersome IME. I have taken to asking them to quote me the return shipping costs if I don't like something (which they will do).

Ruggables are also much easier to ship/return. Even if you yourself didn't want to wash an 8x10 or 9x12 at home, it would be pretty easy to take is somewhere to do so. I have only bought runners from them but I really like the washability. They have a new line that is a bit thicker that I think probably looks more upscale, but then it would be more cumbersome to wash.

In any event if you are unsure about a rug, start by ordering a 2x3?

Have you considered an indoor/outdoor rug? These can be hosed off or powered washed. I purchased this 8 X 10 rug from Sam’s Club for my DS, who recently bought a home for a bedroom. This rug has some texture so it doesn’t scream ”patio” to me. He didn’t want anything too traditional looking, but they do exist.

My recent experience.

A Birch Lane store opened locally a few weeks ago. A lamp our daughter was interested (on Wayfair) was in the Birch Lane store for a better price.

The sales person told her to check all the Wayfair stores, which include Joss & Main, Perigold and some others, because its “all the same stock but not always the same price.”

The sales person lost that sale, maybe their job by now. Daughter still does not have a lamp but the price was different on the sites she checked. shipping costs were different too.

Nothing is easy anymore. 😊

The last rug I bought online was from Rugs.com. I think it was Amy who recommended them. They offer free shipping and free returns.

I have a 10x13 polypropylene rug in the keeping room. It's similar to this one. Price was about the same. It's held up well the past 6 years.
