Design my Fireplace Wall - Ideas Wanted!

Hi All -

Struggling to decide what I would put over the fireplace. TV has to stay where it is (and it would be too high above the fireplace, anyhow). See photos below. There will be a new, lovely piece of furniture under the Frame TV on the left to hide all the wires. Note that the fireplace is off center on the wall, so bookshelf surrounds won't work there.

What would you do? Any links to actual items would be welcome. Thank you!

lower the TV to eye level.

are you able to position the sofa facing the Fireplace? the add another swilvel chair to the seating arrangement. simple fireplace vignette. an area rug, what's opposite the pass thru?

Thank you, but the TV is going to stay where it is. I'm really looking for advice about the wall. The furniture is on its way..

The passthrough looks into the front hallway (the blue door is our front door).

I would add a pottery piece on the left side of the mantel, with some greenery, and lean a couple of pictures on the right.

A mirror in a wood frame if the mirror reflects something nice like a pendant or art work. If not, then an art work about 2/3rds the size of the mantel. Put a basket of birch logs on the hearth to break up all that black. Is it a gas fireplace? If not, then keep logs in the firebox as below.

Art work. Furnishings, curtains, bedcover echo the art palette.

Who told you that you can’t have built-ins because the fireplace is off center?? I would fill the entire wall around the fireplace with built in bookshelves. It’s just not true that everything has to be perfectly symmetrical to be beautiful. Nothing makes a house look classier than custom built-ins. Check out a book called #Shelfie by Geraldine James for some amazing ideas…many of which are asymmetrical 😊 Good luck!

Is that aportable elcetric FP ?

No - it's a gas fireplace and those are gas insert logs. They'll need to stay as they are (color, etc). It's not as "black" when you're in the space.

The new piece you will be putting under the TV will be important to consider when deciding how to decorate the fireplace wall. Has it already been chosen? Can you post a photo?

Sure! This is the new piece of furniture in place, and a few more angles to help get a sense. It’s a lovely sunporch space behind, but makes a traditional living room layout challenging.

Will also take coffee table ideas!

You've been given some great ideas!

Here are some additional ones to consider:

    • paint above mantel to give height
    • beef up mantel
    • add a large vertical painting
    • flank with tall vases with something simple in them
    • add a natural basket (to store blankets?)
    • add a rug to define the area

Oh, I like the new furniture you added!

You might try a tall lamp by the sofa and fireplace, then a tall plant on the other side of the fireplace. This will add height to your space, and make things look less sterile. You also might want to try some artwork over the mantle and a colorful rug.
