    Rhizomes? Horizontally growing stems?

It’s good to see a positive article about hostas, but….. I wonder how this was generated? There are a lot of references listed, but this seems to be a collection of generalizations and some downright misinformation here.

I’ve never thought of hostas as growing into hedges. Is that depending on one’s perception of a hedge? No mention of problems with slugs or deer, making them sound totally carefree!

One thing that jumped out at me was the warning that they can’t be planted out in the fall. It said you should plant in a pot and grow them inside over the winter. Big NO to that one!

    Red hosta cultivars???

Just goes to show anyone can put out info- right or wrong. Surprisingly the species listed were all legit. Makes you wonder if this is AI at work.

Had a look at the article and when they overlook Korea as a country of origin you begin to wonder, don't you....

So, had a closer look at some of the content.

The Hosta Plant, also known as the plantain lily or the Gibōshi, is known to be native to China and Japan.1 It is a herbaceous perennial rhizome plant that is hardy enough to grow healthily in indirect sunlight exposure.

No mention of Korea in this paragraph, although it is mentioned in the illustration directly above it.

Are hostas perennials? Yes. The Hosta Plant is a perennial that lives for 24 months on average.

Since when do hostas only live 2 years?

But can you plant hostas in the fall? You can, but it’s not quite as straightforward.

Since hostas are deciduous perennials that will go dormant and suspend root growth in cold weather months, it is not advisable that you plant it in the ground during the fall. The only feasible way to plant a Hosta Plant during the fall is in a pot and grow it indoors.

    Grow it indoors.... DUHHHH!

    When To Plant Hosta Bulbs

So, when to plant Hosta Bulbs?

    Since when are hostas bulbs????

There are many varieties of red, red and yellow, red and green, and even red and blue colored Hosta Plants.

Harvest Dandy, Red Rhubarb, Grand Slam, Red Dragon, Red October, Bloodline, Cherry Red, Fire Island, and Big Red are just some of the red Hosta Plant cultivars that you can buy.

Out of the cultivars listed the only one that shows any red in the leaves is 'Bloodline', the others just have red petioles, bit of a stretch.

@Ben, this is how rhizomatous hostas can be:

Growth habits like this are why some consider H. clausa to be difficult to control....

It seemed downright simplified and very misleading. I certainly would not consider it a good source of information for hostas.

I wonder now too if this is AI generated. Because it is bizarre otherwise imho
