you will need more than two panels... and a middle support bracket.

get a rod that extends at least 6" beyond the window trim, and just under the ceiling for a nice look. even if you buy a rod pocket panel, you can add clip on rings for a professional look, and easy opening, even get a drapery wand for ease in openiing.

do you have room for 96" length? you want the drapery panels to look full especially when closed, so at least 4 panels (maybe more)

Thank you. I was wondering if we would need two more panels - ugh. This room has 8 foot ceilings, so 96" is too long. I may have the same problem I've had before. 84" too short - 96" too long which will mean alterations! Why can't anything be easy lol.

Also - maybe I could get away with 96"? The curtain would have to go to the "tippy top" of the wall! I don't want the curtain to lay on the floor. Appreciate all the help.

You could try the 84s with rings with clips, that will add a couple of inches. You'll need a helper to hold the rod up to the window so you can see if the added length from the rings works.

I personally don't like when the curtains are crammed against the ceiling. A middle ground between the top of the window and the ceiling looks nice.

Yes I dont know if I can cram them all the way to the top of the ceiling. These need to be usable and will be opened and shut often. I do like the idea of adding the rings and clips for a little more height. Bummed I need to order two more panels but it is what it is! I should have known!

Curtains aren't a good idea for a nursery because the little one could pull on the fabric and pull the whole thing off the wall. In such a case the curtain rod could hit the child or they could get tangled up in the fabric.

I would buy 4 longer panels and have them hemmed vs squishing the rod up to the ceiling. Yvonne has a good point about panel drapes and children. They might grab the panel to pull themselves up. Have you considered a faux roman?
