Stain weathered wood without sanding?

Hi, I have a piece of weathered wood I love the texture of as a mantel topper. Unfortunately it is more gray than I would prefer. I don't want to sand it and lose the natural texture though. Is it possible to stain it without sanding? What product should I look for? Thank you!

Try this. You will need an electric drill (cheap 120 volt or high quility cordless). Buy 3 different stiffness wire brushes that chuck into drill to find which does best, Or you can use a manual wire brush and LOTS of elbow grease. Wire brush removes weathered layer while leaving harder ridges intact and preserving texture.
