We just replaced all of our red oak with white oak. Red oak is definitely cheaper if budget is a factor. This was our before and after

European Oak engineered allows flat cut wide planks 7-12". This shows off the structure of those species possible because they don't have the open grain of domestic white oak. Lots of sources because these are produces in Asia, i.e.. Malasia, Vietnam, China. Monarch Plank has good background info. White oak is both a classic and a fad. The current whitewashed look is a total fad, as the centuries long standard in oak floors has been a light to medium brown, often mixing the two woods.

Keep what you have out of the landfill. Match it, stain a light brown, and save a ton of money Plus be greener, and more clasdic in design. It will outlast all the current fads, and fads to come.
