Pruning suggestions for an old honeysuckle vine

I would like to rejuvenate this ancient honeysuckle vine.I 'm thinking about beheading it and fertilizing to stimulate fresh growth. It has become too large.

It is very woody

How should I trim this plant aftering flowering to reduce it's size without turning it into a bunch of sticks? Can this plant handle a drastic trim? thanks

Nothing but bare branches under the canopy!

Beheading will not deal with the woody stems. You need to cut the stems off near the base. If you want to keep the thick stems but get rid of the top tangle cut it off higher up.

I'd remove a third of the woody stems and lop off a third of the top. It should be fine. Lop off half of the top growth if you like. Repeat for a few years.

I would clean up (prune off) some of the dead branches, but I think the rest of it is beautiful. It's blooming profusely and I think the thick, twisted stems are part of the beauty of the plant.
