I love the vortex, but wouldn't know how to address it to serve or eat it!

The deer will get to my hostas faster than I can. They love them fresh and off the vine. I cant grow anything in the lilly family because of the deer. They eat the hostas down to the ground.

I hear this and I am confused. I have IDK a thousand hosta? I have a herd, yes a herd of deer that roam our subdivision. I've seen a bite or two but they move on quickly. I guess they like the neighbors evergreens better.

I've never considered eating them either. "Vortex" perfect description.

My hostas all have names, aka specifically hybridized and registered. Can not eat anything with a name, even that I am vegan and love greens.

What do they taste like? Can anyone compare them to something I might have eaten? I grow my hosta for pretty, not to eat, but I'm curious what flavor they bring to a dish?

I have the straight green leaf hosta (and some fancier ones). I learned they were edible from D’arch. It took me a few years to try them. They are quite delicious. Kind of a bok choy asparagus mix. Now a favorite spring green. And honestly I can’t tell I cut any by this time of year.

So they do have some flavor to them. Good to know just in case I ever want to try them. I can't bring myself to do that to my precious hostas yet, but maybe on one that's thriving and the leaves won't be missed, I'll be daring one day.

Sorry to get back to this post so late. It has been a very hectic month. Thanks everyone.

My garden is totally overwhelmed by Hostas, the eating kind, not the pretty kinds which I also have plenty. I am sure you know the crazy ground elder (goutweed, Aegopodium podagraria) they are impossible to get rid of, but my Hostas chock them out.

We have some deer in the area, not too many. We also have plenty of slugs, but so far I have no problems with deer or slugs.

Hosta is a vegetable in some parts of the world. Eating Hosta is not my invention. You have to eat Hosta when they just come out of the ground, otherwise they get tough. I think they taste like a cross between endive and asparagus.
