What’s that piece connected to? It looks like a piece of an old crown to me.

There is a disease called Fusarium root and crown rot (FRCR), but it doesn’t really look like that to me.

That's what I thought at first. It does look like old crown, but it's a little far down so I wasn't sure. It was connected to some thicker piece, but I didn't pay that much attention to it. I was curious so took pictures, but I didn't get weirded out until I saw the photo close up.

The plant looks terrific so it may be nothing to worry about. Is there a reason you didn’t cut it out? Was that not possible because it would have split the rest of the plant? It will be interesting to hear others chime in……. 🤔

debra, after all hostas go through, being dug up, divided, and shipped, I didn't want to disturb it any more than it already had been. And it didn't look bad to me until I saw those little worms or maggots on it. Then I thought it might be dying material? But like you said, the hosta does look good otherwise, and I know it's a reputable seller.

lindalana, I put Biotone into the planting hole, but I do have worm castings I can dig in around it. Couldn't hurt!

I wouldn’t have dug it up either sandy……I was just curious, lol

Maybe the little worms were just taking advantage of what was there! 😆😆
