Hosta ID, please.

This is a mini. Green or blue/green. You can see acorn tops around it for scale. Seems to be a pretty good grower and spreader. I can’t remember the name and don’t think I have it written down anywhere. I think I’d recognize what I bought and planted if someone else can jar my memory. Any ideas?

Is it old? Leaves appear blue?

Can you measure leaves? HL says SG has dark green glossy leaves, about 2-2 1/2 long and 1- 1 1/4 wide, purple flowers with white stripe. Maybe when it flowers that will help. Also it’s supposed to be stoloniforus and grow fast into a compact shape.

I hope Sherry pops in because she has SG and I seem to recall hers looking blue at least at a certain stage.. I am thinking perhaps old_dirt has it too.

Here is my Surfer Girl. Your description of it habits are correct. It grows realy fast. I hot it at my local nursery, very knowledgeable people. I am sure this is Surfer Girl.

One more thing, Ive read several descriptions and have seen many photos. The photos all look the same and descriptions very from dark green to lime green……go figure.

Thanks for the help! It resembles Surfer Girl, but that name doesn't ring a bell. But you're all making me wonder if I forgot it, lol. I probably got it between 2019 and 2021. I tried keeping six minis in pots, but when they were declining I put them into the yard. Dragon Tails and this one made it.

I can measure the leaves tomorrow. And IF it flowers that would be helpful.

I sat with Surfer Girl in my head overnight, and I’m sure I never got that one. Maybe this is a kissin’ cousin of it? The biggest leaf is 3” long and 1” across when I unfold it. I’m not sure if that helps because so many of mine are in recovery mode. But it’s possibly a small and not a mini?

My next step is….. I have a drawer full of plant tags. Some were kept, and others were tossed. So I may find something in there for my NOID. Otherwise, it will remain a mystery until I hear the name and know….. that’s it! I’m open to any more guesses!

Does not look just like my SG, I don't recall mine having any hint of blue. It does spread like crazy by runners (stoloniferous ), every year I pull out several new starrts around the edges to keep it from invading its neighbors. Blooms in mid July.

peren.all - you have a good memory, I can't always remember what I have myself.

Gary, thanks for the guess. Of all the blues I’ve gotten over the years, the Sliver part doesn’t sound familiar. But the pics on the HL look like it could be a close relative.

Old_dirt, the lighting in your first pic of SG is perfection!

Did you buy Rhyme and blues?

Rhythm and Blues? No, I never did get that one, either. But that one also looks close. There’s so many that look similar!

Just a side note: It looks like I recently bought a sport of Rhythm and Blues called Brentwood Blues. It’s a good looking sport.

Slim and Trim! THAT’S IT!!!! Thanks again, Gary! You’re two for two! I can't believe you got that one. No wonder I couldn’t remember that name, it’s not one commonly seen or talked about here…. If ever, lol! It feels good to solve that mystery. You said you thought of it while watering. Does this mean you have this one, also?

Looking at the database, it’s the same breeders as the one you thought of earlier, Blue Sliver.

Paula, thanks for the guess. I have Serendipity, but it’s a little bigger and less wavy, and that’s one that I know where it is. 😊

Yes I do have Slim and Trim. Herb Benedict live a few miles North of where I'm located but I had never met him as he had passed before I got active in hostas. He was a close friend of Clarence Owens though and he talk about him. Both men were pioneers in the early breeding of hostas.
