Then he also bought a pump that merely recycles the water, a solar light for night time and some smooth river rocks.

Starting with the largest pot, he placed an old, upside down garden pot inside and placed the smallest pot on top to lift it to the level desired. He put the rocks around the bottom to weigh it down. He connected the pump, light and spout and filled it with water. The spout merely sit across the back of the bowl, so if a troublesome raccoon comes along, he may knock it off (like he did last night), otherwise it sits there, no problem.

Determining where to put the panel was probably the trickiest thing. We had to try a few spots to get enough sun. He treats the water with something that keeps ponds clean. It is perfectly safe for the cats to drink. That’s it!

Adding plastic greenery is up to you!

debra - You made me chuckle about adding plastic greenery. I was a florist in a previous life, and have made many an arrangement using silk flowers -- and I still have sooooo many of those. As I am reaching the age of having to give up real gardening one of these days, perhaps I shall just plunk my silk flowers around the yard. Bet the deer and rabbits will leave those alone, unlike my real plants...

Roxanna, we had a neighbor who used to put out silk flowers in her yard all year long. She never seemed to know when what bloomed. For instance, she had forsythia in August and sometimes daisies in the early spring while there was a bit of snow. I guess she figured whatever she liked should be around her yard. It was definitely colorful!

Thanks for the details! It's a good looking water feature. My experience keeping pumps working (cat water fountains) was not good. I’m glad this is working for you, and that’s great that your DH likes your garden, too.

Fake flowers come in handy. My mom didn’t want to garden so she put geraniums in the ground across her front window. Z9/10, so it was believable until they faded and then she’d buy more.

Just a note, he is the one who bought the fake flowers…..he also bought Lily pads and those were more realistic, but the raccoons thought they were something to eat. I would come out in the morning and find them chewed up. I thought we were lucky (as far as raccoons go) when we had to take the big tree down……they were living in it. But much to my surprise, when I can downstairs for some water at about 4:30 this morning, there were 3 baby raccoons running around the deck and in and out of the water bowl and fountain! They are so cute by mischievous! One was standing with all four feet in the big drinking bowl! They were also all over the fountain. I finally went out to try to scare them off and put the fountain back together. They hid under the deck and would poke their noses out will I was trying to put the fountain back together………. Repeatedly!
I finally went back to bed. Of course this am, the fountain had to be reassembled. Yikes!!!
