backsplash ideas

Getting ready to select backsplash and have installed next week. Not sure what to pick, any suggestions welcomed :) Floors will be done this summer, likely a brown wood look floor (less orange for sure)

Do you have any inspiration images? Do you want to keep things neutral so the backsplash disappears into the background and your counters are the star of the show?

Oh, also what’s the tile budget?

I lean towards neutrals, I have been thinking white subway tile because I like classic and simple.

There is nothing wrong with a white subway tile!

For reasons I can’t explain I want to put an arabesque in your space, or a Morrocan encaustic tile. Feel free to ignore these suggestions if your heart wants white subway tiles, do that. I would mention that the other subtle choice would be grey subway tiles. But white will bounce around the light beautifully.

eam44 im with you on the curves. This lovely kitchen has many right angles and long straight runs so Arabesque or curves or texture would be a good contrast. That said, white subway would be fine too 🙂

It may be a bit hard to tell in this picture but my counter is very similar to yours. I believe that the marble tiles are timeless and offset the counters really well.

@cathy that’s beautiful! Where did you buy your backsplash tiles?

My advice make sure all the rest is done the lighting all the same LEDs and then choose backspalsh this can wait for a long time before rushing in to do it wrong. I think the arabesque tiles are busy and honestly do not work in every space How is your cooktop being vented ? IMO the backspalsh is only needed in such a small area maybe a color like aglass tile. I like all LED 4000K lighting in a kitchen and usually not exposed bulbs but at least now make sure all the light is the same .What are the floors now?

Pick a white paint for the walls, then go for some color in the tile, something in a light blue or green would look great with the cabinets and counters:

Just one observation on marble tile. Your counters are faux stone. No one will notice that if you choose a ceramic tile. But pop marble onto the backsplash and you are highlighting the faux in your faux finish. That said, get what you love.

Sometimes it is hard to straddle the open transition from classic dining room to functional hard surfaced kitchen area, but you have done it beautifully. A tile backsplash is going to make that transition feel much more abrupt and clunky. For this reason, I'd get more of your counter material and run a slab of it behind the knife holder by the stove to just above the outlet height. I'd also run it on the walls as your splash elsewhere in your kitchen. If that gets to expensive, do the slab on your range area and a 5" strip on your other counters.

You have a beautiful kitchen. I'd suggest a white tile and then since you don't have a lot of wall space in the kitchen, I'd run the tile all the way to the ceiling. You have a classic kitchen so I'd go with a classic subway tile.
