Japanese Beetles have emerged

Walking my garden this morning and was dismayed to see beetles on the rubeckias, coneflowers and crape mrytle bush. I got my cup of soapy water and tried to get as many as I could and then got the Rescue Beetle Trap set up on the front area. I still have to set up 2 more traps but tomorrow when its a bit cooler. I haven't used this brand of trap but so far it is catching the beetles.

Rocks Cry Out and Clown Parade are blooming along with other perennials I have. I am waiting for a couple daylilies to bloom so I can tag them. When I moved and split some of the daylilies from the original bed to a new extension bed, I did not tag them all and cannot remember who is who.

Rocks Cry Out - second day of blooms. I split it in the spring and put them both in the new bed.

Clown Parade - first blooms. Kept it where it was in the original bed.

That's certainly a good placement of Clown Parade. The yellow Yarrow compliments the throat of Clown Parade. Nice combination...........As for JB's, one of the few pests we don't have at present in my area. So they attack Crape Myrtles too? I've never heard that before. It makes me doubly nervous. They are work horses around here and they have enough trouble lately with our colder winter weather..........Maryl

Good for you catching so many beetles! I haven't seen many around here yet. Usually they emerge the last of May and the beginning of June. I have seen grubs still feeding on daylily roots when I was helping people dig clumps last week.

Rocks Cry Out and Clown Parade are looking good! Other than JBs, your season is off to a fine start!

We haven't seen those nasty Japanese beetles yet this year. June bugs usually accompany them, but this year there are no peaches for them to destroy.

Rocks Cry Out and Clown Parade are very pretty.

Lovely shot of Clown Parade in that setting. I carry a cup of soapy water with me in the mornings. JBs are on my rose bushes and hibiscus. I have even found some crawling on lily foliage but think they are using it for a launching pad. I laughed at the name of the traps-not like a catch and release trap!!

Clow Parade is lovely, and your Rocks Cry Out always looks so good. I am so sorry for the beetles they have become a little bit of nothing here...They used to be awful but the birds have apparently decided they are food and I saw only a very few five or six oer three or four days and they were gone. I wish that for you and soon.

Thanks all for the comments. 92F temps yesterday here and the same for today. Maryl, I was surprised to find so many on the crape myrtle. I should get some pics to show the damage they've done on the new growth leaves. I'm hoping it doesn't affect the blooms still yet to come. Debra, when I transplanted daylilies in the spring I found several grubs in the new bed. Tossed them onto the grass for the birds. Nancy, I don't think I could handle June bugs at this point. Kate, so far the trap is working. Hope to set up the remaining two today. Kay, Birds don't seem to go after them here. I wish they would.

It is already 71F here early this morning. I have to get out and water the veggie garden. Goodness if it isn't the deer and rabbits I have to worry about and spray for, now the JB's.
