A Flower bed measuring 8’ x 8’ is not what you have. You have two beds that appear to be perhaps 8’ x 2’. Tiny. And overplanted already.

If you want such large plants as Little Limes, the beds should be at least 8’x4’. You should consider enlarging the beds and/or removing three of the Little Limes and placing them elsewhere, perhaps leaving one at the outside corner.

Little lime punch grows 3-5 feet and I spaced them 3 feet Apart as per the instructions. I am planning to add 2 more feet in width. Would this look ok?

3-5 feet applies to both height and width. So you have three shrubs potentially five feet in all directions in a bed only 8 feet long and currently about 2 feet wide. Littlebug has given you a plan. Use the left over shrubs somewhere else.

The eastern US is experiencing record heat and a hot summer has been predicted. I question whether the OP should move anything now or let it be until September.

You can always dig up your hydrangeas when and if they outgrow the spot, which won't be for quite some time. I'd underplant them with something like moss phlox. It will give you some color in the spring and it should thrive. Another option is Iris Crestata, (dwarf crested Iris). Mine does well in a stone planter. Moss phlox will fill in faster.

I'd plant some trailing annuals while waiting for whatever you have as a perennial underplanting (like the moss phlox) to grow in.

I think the hydrangeas are a nice choice and I plant bulbs and some ground cover around mine so I have nice green and some color in the spring before the stars bloom. I always advise to go slow when beginning gardening a few well cared for plants are better than a bunch rhat get out of hand. Get big pots fill to over flowing with some seasonal plants that give you color all the time and you can even add some Christmas decor to them and lights

Here’s a visual. The black outline is your front flowerbed which you estimated at 8’ x 2’. The red square represents one 4’ hydrangea; obviously it will grow in a round shape instead of square but you get the idea. The 2’ measurement of your bed is a real problem.

Thank you little bug!!!!! That diagram makes total sense. I always felt it was too narrow deep down. I was planing on widening the bed regardless but instead of the second row of flowers maybe just give more space for the hydrangeas
