Hardwood floor gap under transition piece

We had transition pieces made from the new flooring we put in by beveling an edge and putting on a finish (thanks to G & S Flooring for the rec). For onr of them, the old floor that meets it is uneven, causing a gap (see left side in the picture). Is there some sort of filler or caulking we could use here? Also, what is best to secure the transition pieces in place? finishing nails or some kind of construction glue?

You can do it with vertical 'pressure wedges', which is easy as using 3-4 pieces of lumber cut a tad over the height of the casing frame to the transition piece. I wished I had taken a picture or two back in my installation days in what it looks like.

No need to nail, just glue the heck out of it. Leave it be for 24 hours and remove.

Perhaps the pressure can cover the gap. I'm guessing on that part.

I'd take off the transition piece you've installed and add more material to the bottom to increase the thickness.

That would be better than caulk and it would match.

I have used finish screws to hold down a transition like that. The heads aren't much larger than a 6 penny nail. They might just remove some of that gap.

Assuming there is a dip in the old flooring causing the gap I'd take the transition piece off and shim the old flooring to make it level. A thin tapered wedge driben in perpendicular to the flooring will spread the correction out far enough that it won't be noticiable, eg over 2-3 boards.
