Friday's blooms

Another hot day here so I didn't take many photos.

I am not usually a fan of lavender, but Viking Power got my attention today. It is from Gil Stelter in Canada. Gil sent it to Bob when he was closing his garden. It is quite large and has an interesting shape. Also, we saw our first Japanese beetle today.

Fire Blast is another big flower.

Whoa Mule is quite tall and a reverse bicolor.

Now or Never is southern and is holding its own here.

We took just a couple of seedling photos today.

Pineapple Bites X Wandering Werribee.

Hopefully, Lady Stephanie Victoria Redding X Rosy Spiketail will be an intro in 2025.

This little diploid isn't much but it does have teeth, which is rather rare in diploids.

All very nice. Is the Pineapple Bites seedling also on track for intro? I have never grown a DeVito cultivar. If the hybridizer's intros tend to be tender, the entire genetic pool tends to be affected; but I am always open to a beauty like Now or Never.

I do like lavenders so Viking Power looks good to me. Now Or Never is pretty but I'm not a fan of tannish colors in the bloom which looks to be what is combined with the lite purple? I looked it up and see the DeVito description says "violet pink with lilac purple eye".Not seeing pink but maybe in person it does. The teeth on your daylilies are showing really well. Must be the heat. Nice group of photos. Stay cool.

I also like Viking Power as I like some cool lavenders in the garden. Now or Never kinda falls in that category! The Pineapple Bites seedling is quite nice. I have had the Japanese beetles for a couple of weeks. Although beetle traps are up, I see this a lot.

Julia, usually Now or Never is more of a light pink petal. I believe the heat is affecting some of the colors.

I too like the looks of Viking Power. Such a lovely lavender. Now or Never is another pretty color combination...........I am instinctively repulsed by photos of Japanese Beetles feasting on plants like a barbarian hoard. My sympathies to all who are plagued by them. Do any other creatures eat them?..........Maryl

I'm a lavender fan, so Viking Power and Now or Never really grab me. The Pineapple Bites seedling is looking very good!

Maryl, the trouble with Japanese beetles is there are no native predators. Bob did read recently that some bug or wasp has been introduced from Japan that feeds only on Japanese beetles. There is also milky spore, which I believe is a fungus. You innoculate your soil and it kills the grubs. We used it on our small city lot in town and it did make a difference, but on a property this size it would be an expensive proposition.
