Proper wood for deck

My builder-installed deck was made of unfinished white cedar, which is detiorationg in places. I want to rebuild it, but was wondering what kind of wood. It was suggested to me that hemlock would be better, and I was wondering what the opinion here is. I was originally going to use white cedar again, and based on the recommendation of the cedar dealer, finish it with boiled linseed oil, but the person who recommended the hemlock said no, because I would need to finish all sides of each board, which I can do now but when it needs to be refinished, I couldn't do the back.
