Help identifying wood and stain on kitchen island

Hello,

We are looking to refinish the wood counter on our island but are not sure what type of wood and finish are currently on it. We’d be hoping to strip the wood and restain it a walnut color if possible. Attached is a picture of the top and bottom of the island

Looks to me like Walnut with a clear finish. The light color is and will always remain lighter even with a stain, different density of wood.

Thank you! Is there a way to tone down the red/orange tones in the wood?

That is the color that walnut changes to with time and light exposure. It's always going to happen. And it is GORGEOUS!
