Move in first and take accurate measurements and pictures that include your furniture.

No furniture yet, going to purchase new if that helps? I just don’t know how to style it

The railings are a dominant feature…and they look like raw wood logs?..the wood trims and floors add to the “cabin” ambiance…(while the architecture does not?)..in this case i would choose the furniture you like ….and add railings that are more appropriate

The floor spaces look very small…so choosing your furniture will also be a challenge…how many people will be watching tv at one time?…this will guide you choice of where to locate that activity..

IMO…i would try the tv on the right of the window…this may allow two couches to fit in the little cove area?…posting a floorplan is the only way to know what will fit

Thanks for the feed back! I will patiently wait until I get in then!

See if you can get a floorplan with measurements. Posting a drawing on this site will get you an optimum layout from the designers who post on Houzz.

Charming looking house ..live in it , see what you need ….try out which way you like to face when doing anything from lounging to watching tv ..etc …and look over the closet …all that wasted space …maybe one day you could fill that in for storage of suitcases or rarely used items ….

P.s the tv should be anywhere but where it is in the photo …you should be facing into the room and not having furniture facing the front door…

Congrats on your new home! Looks like a very interesting layout.

Can't help without proper floor plan with dimensions, including window placement and height of the wall under the stair railing. I'm assuming that is the front door perpendicular to the wood closet doors, the wood doors are a closet and that is not necessarily the position of the TV. I would be happy to scale a drawing for you.

How many people will be using this room at a time?

    Is this the TV room?

Since it's not your furniture in the pics, do you have furniture, rug and art, you will be using or purchasing new?

    Hi Belinda,

    This is a great space.
I would start with drapes on the window for privacy and warmth, colorful art in the walls, plants and modern furniture. Reach out if you need further professional advice.

You have two spots for the tv, either the stair wall or the back wall.

You have to be careful with drapes because of the two heating vents that are right there.

Please don't consider a sectional, but think - chairs and sofas.

Congrats on your new home. It looks like a warm, bright space.

I agree that fitting in a sectional would be tough and make the space look very crowded.

Your floors, walls, and trim are warm-toned so warm-toned furniture will look better in the space than cool grays. It's possible to combine gray with warm colors and have it look nice but it's much easier to decorate it if you just work with the dominant tone in the room.

The previous owners make the mistake of hanging the art way too high. Art should be hung at eye level.

At some point you might want to add some things on the second story part of the family room ceiling - a mural, a sculpture, textiles - but make sure the people level is mostly finished - rugs, art, lamps, etc. If the people level is unfinished and you hang decor at the upper level it will make the space look out of balance.
