Actually, as I walked around the garden a little more this afternoon, I noticed a number of hostas with these marks, though not as bad as the two pictured.

For earwigs, put some rolled up wet newpaper at the base of the plant. Earwigs will go in there overnight. Shake it out into some soapy water in the morning to see if you got any of them. Or try Sluggo Plus. My other thought is tiny green caterpillars. Spray bt on both sides of the leaves to kill those when they chew the leaves. I use bt on my tomato plants and it is wonderful.

Never heard of using dormant spray for hosta or other perennials. That is interesting. I would like to know more.

My garden is much the same. I think the wet weather has made the insect population explode!

I agree newhostalady. That combined with a milder winter.
