I planted these this year. Of course no berries yet but I've read they get darker pink when ripe. The honeyberries I planted last year did produce a handful each this spring. It's been fun to taste test them to see if they are ripe. I'm sure I'll do the same thing if I ever get blueberries. Our soil isn't ideal for them, raspberries grow like weeds here, but I'm trying anyways.

Aziline, I killed a couple of blueberry plants by trying to grow them in our soil (clay and more alkaline). I learned to grow them in pots, in a mix of about 75% peat with some chopped leaves and compost mixed in. They seem to like wider than deep pots too. They've done very well for years with minimal maintenance - I repot them about every 5 years, or when I see fruit production declining. This pink lemonade took a few years longer to start fruiting than my other varieties (Northblue, etc).

Of course I have to have a frame with netting around them to keep the critters at bay.

If you have the patience, try this:

Keep a daily eye on the ground below your blueberry bush.

Or, shake your bush daily until several berries fall..

The fruit that falls on the ground is fully ripe.

Compare the color and flavor of these to determine which fruit to pick directly off the bush.

I thought growing in pots would be more fiddly than that. When you repot it's into a bigger one? What size are they in now? I did mix in a ton of acid loving soil but I should probably bite the bullet and pot them now.
