July 1 Blooms from Upstate NY

Cool day today. I don't think it even hit 70 degrees.

Here is a FFE for me. THUNDERBIRD DANCER is a Derrow. I am not really into pattern daylilies as I tend to think that daylilies are about color, form and edges - things one can see from a distance. Patterns are difficult to see from a distance for an average gardener. I purchased this one from the club for a more than fair price. I really purchased it for the edge and the color.

MICHAEL BENNETT: Love the color. The sepals are a little funky, but they will straighten out on subsequent blooms.

THE FURYAN

HUSH LITTLE BABY: I'm a sucker for good pink diploids.

NEON RAINBOW: This one is leaving the garden. Very slow to increase and the bud count is in single digits.

VATICAN CITY at 8:15 pm

MIDNIGHT RAIDER: A good old purple.

Midnight Raider had a good year here. I like the clear, intense color--more reddish than Evening Enchantment, but both intensely shaded.

Hush Little Baby is such a good clear pink. My Midnight Raider and Evening Enchantment that Mantis mentioned do not have a reddish overtone-both are good dark purples as is Vatican City. I hope The Furyan does well for you. It is really pretty!

I'm fond of patterns, so Thunderbird Dancer is my favorite of these. They don't have impact from far away, but they are mesmerizing little works of art.

I like the Thunderbird Dancer. We grow it but haven't had that nice of a pattern. Ours has also been quite small. Vatican City has always been a favorite purple here.

I missed this somehow. I agree with you about patterns, but that Derrow one is a good one if you are up close.....How great does Vatican City look for you! Nice deep wine/purple with a velvety finish. Furyan appeals for the same reason....I keep thinking I'll get Hush Little Baby someday, but I never seem to have the space. It is a nice one............Maryl
