Broken torchiere lamp shade replacement

last year

While attempting to swat a wasp, I broke a very sentimental lamp! I know nothing about it, there are no markings.

Anyone have an ideal of who made this lamp, When it was made, etc.?

I would like to try to find a replacement for the glass top...Any suggestions? I am trying to piece it together but I believe the base is shattered beyond help. It was once so beautiful!

Before the accident

My desperate attempt to glue it back together

Please help, thanks

Life happens, get a new lamp and remember the old one .You could take the base to agood lighting store where they have shades to try but could be a never ending search. Masure the base that will be the big issue when searching. The Lighting Guy in Toronto has a great site it might be worth a look. Do not throw out the old one yet you will need it for measurements

Did you look on eBay or any of the vintage glass lamp shade replacement web sites?

A competent restorer could fix the glass shade. Call a local auction house for a recommendation.

I can't believe some clueless person would tell you " Life happens, get a new lamp ". I'm so sorry about your lamp, and I hope you can get it restored or find another shade. You could try a Google Lens search to possibly find out the maker, or find a shade.

Look for an old time lighting/shade repair store in your area. They are still around. I know one in the LA area that was owned by an older guy and was still around before covid.

Thank you all for the great suggestions, I’m going to an Antique mall today with the measurements. I will ask around!

I'd find a lighting restorer in your area and take it to them to see if they can find a way to replace the shade. For example, there's a place in San Francisco called Dogfork that does just this sort of work. Depending on where you are, there may be a similar kind of restoration outfit. Good luck!

Oh my. I am so sorry, especially if it was a family piece handed down. Here are two. Not as delicate and lovely as yours, but makes me think there must be someting out there that would work. Also, check out Etsy. The second link below has one and there are several that have less depth than yours, but they might be a source to ask.

I found this on 1st dibs that appears almost identical...it's been sold but id's it as Lightolier brand, which might help.

I haven't had any luck finding a similar embossed shade, but did see this art deco one in a similar color (I think)

The neck measurement is roughly 3inches and a half. It has to be a Lightolier because it is almost identical! Meanwhile, I have painstakenly glued it back together and I am trying to find a create way to mount it back on it's stand(since the neck has shattered). Perhaps a a local glassblower could help to restore the shade. Perhaps I can eventually find a replacement now I know the brand....Thank you so much!

I'd look on Etsy. You might not find an exact replacement, but there should be a good assortment of pretty close.

Glad you got it back together enough to be able to use it for now. It's really beautiful..

Even in its damaged state, the lamp has such style and character …we tend to take things/ people for granted until we loose them.

There's a place here in San Francisco called Yuri's Lights and Beyond. His shop is filled with vintage lights and parts. Maybe . . . .

My advice is to keep looking - I've found replacement glass vintage shades at local thrift stores, but it took a fair amount of patience. Yours seems a lot more special than the ones I have.

And I never try to swat wasps - it just makes them mad, and when they're mad they sting. I've had a bad reaction to wasp stings in the past, so I do not mess with them at all, if I can help it.

Here's a page with some good advice on how to deal with them safely...

I have had excellent customer service from www.houseofantiquehardware.com. They sell vintage and reproduction glass and fabric shades for vintage lights as well as antique and reproduction hardware pieces of all kinds, including pulls, knobs, and bales. I found this item with just a simple search on their website. But you might send a photo of your broken shade and they might be able to help you find a replacement.
