small bathroom modernization

I would REALLY appreciate some suggestions. I am looking to update this bathroom, hoping for a more modern look. I am looking to paint and update fixtures. Should I leave the gold shower rim or spray paint it? I am at a loss here. Thanks !!!

Since brass/ gold is in whay not embrace that I do not think painting the shower trim is a good idea. I would get a new one piece low flush toilet , a new counter and a new sink undermount and new brass faucet in a more modern style . Those changes can be planned to stay when ever you get around to a new shower , tile and floor but right now those will bring an update that does not waste money

In my opinion the painted walls are clashing with everything else.

New light fixtures for sure.

The dark depressing walls would be the first thing to go. Find a wallpaper with some life to springboard some color.

I would replace the shower glass with frameless if you really want to update. However, depending on where you live that will probably be over $2K. I don't know what your budget is. Luckily there is nothing wrong with your tile. The accent tiles don't bother me since they're the same color as the tile. Replace the vanity, but don't put a splash around the top since the wall tile is behind the splash. This is provided you can get the old adhesive off. It's unfortunate it was done that way in the first place. I can't tell from the angle the picture, but if you have room to add a medicine cabinet and change the light fixture to two sconces on either side of the mirror I think that would look better and be more functional.

Some art with a bit of gold and new paint will transform this space for little money. Is this the master or a family bathroom? I think you can make this work just fine for you for at least another 5 years.

Embrace the gold. Go for a neutral wall color that matches the tile, paint the vanity cabinet and add a new countertop/ sink/ faucet to it. Change your light fixture to a gold tone and add a new mirror. I’m not a fan of bath mats so I usually do small area rugs in bathroom. Towel hooks are what I like to use too, especially if younger kids in home.

I forgot to add that adding pretty shower bottles helps to keep things looking nice and neat. Also, if you didn’t want to get a new mirror you could also diy one or purchase one from MirrorMate.

You can mix metals in bathrooms. Currently the gold does stand out but you can integrate it with wallpaper, new hardware and a new faucet, along with updating the lighting. Below are some bathroom and powder room ideas for you that might help you more.
