To me that "whitewash" looks like someone doing who has no idea what they are doing. The flooring does not look sanded enough to even be attempting to refinish.

That looks terrible. And you have to sand all of the current finish off of the floors, professionally. Or it will look even worse. It's going to end up pink, either way, if you start with red oak.

That photo of the white wash wasnt mine I think they call it pickling. Here are my floor colors but I would like to do something different then the typical light wood color or dark wood.

Looks DIY and not well done . If you want this look you talk t a good floor refinisher to see what is possible with your floor material.

I guess I just don't understand why you would want to do that. Your floors look great the way they are. Is whitewashing important to you for some overall look you want to achieve? Nothing exists in a vacuum. Even if you found someone who could do a good job, if it doesn't work with everything else in your house it will have been an expensive waste of time.

Instead of white washing because that picture doesn't look good and I have had clients ask for this in the past, only to end up with a pinkish hue...totally depends on the actual wood. I would instead sand down to raw wood and coat with an invisible poly and matte finish for a total natural light looking floor like I have done here.

Personally I think your floors are classic and lovely - I would add rugs or mats (hudson & vine) to add interest - FWIW i wallpapered my stair risers for a bit of whimsy (inexpensive and easy to reverse)

As mentioned, find yourself a good qualified floor refinisher to do the white washing. There are sealers and stains available to achieve the look you want. You have red oak stairs with white oak floors to work with.

This is NOT an "easy" Pinterest hack. It's a good way to DIY ruin your floors.

Well, your floors look like red oak, however, I am not an expert so a floor refinisher can check. The problem you run into is that once sanded, when you try to whiten the floors they turn pink. I've done a lot of research on this as I have red oak floors. I did end up hiring a great floor refinisher who uses Berger Seidel products. He sanded and then put on a product called "pinkqualizer" to reduce the pink tones. I wanted a natural floor( to look more like a natural white oak) not white, but they do have products to get a more white washed scandanavian look. Check out their products and if you like the look, find an Experienced floor refinisher who has used the products before. The company is not as well known in the US as some others, but they are well known in Europe.

Your floors are beautiful, please dont ruin them. That white wash is an awful look. Add some throw rugs, if you dont like them.
