Needs an update

Could you please give me some advice on updating? Door color, remove bushes and add more landscaping, change colors on A's on house?

I'd start by powerwashing the front. Then, I'd widen the walkway and line it with something pretty, like lavender. You can replace the cement pavers with something wider or you can add an edging. Two rows of those cement pavers edged with brick would look good.

I would ID and assess the shrubs before removing them. Healthy shrubs that are in the wrong place can be moved. (Read up on how to do that). Most shrubs can be pruned back by at least half, some can be cut to the ground.

The fir on the side of the house looks pretty sorry, but sometimes and otherwise healthy tree suffered some dieback during tough weather a number of years ago and if no one pruned out the dead growth, it's still there, looking bad on an otherwise healthy tree. Or if you plan to water and the previous owners didn't. Again, what is it and what's it's problem?

Low growing shrubs to the right of the door would look nice.

    What Sigrid said.

Looks like a charming home but the sidewalk (one of the first things you see) gives a bad impression. It’s in poor shape and is too narrow.

By painting the A a different color, you mean the gables? No, I wouldn’t do that. You could put shutters on the side with the two single windows on the ground floor. Not on the double windows on the front, but if there are single windows behind those overgrown shrubs, you could put them on those.

This home will be charming with a little elbow grease. Clean the siding. The roof is a great color. I think the porch/stoop needs to be addressed, it needs shoring up/leveling. The steps should be as wide as the stoop. The posts need to be wrapped so they are mor substantial looking. Shutters the color of the roof on the single windows both front and the sides would look nice. New walway and then address the landscaping as suggested above

I agree with everyone's comments - a wider step, secure the front porch posts, and a new walkway to the front door.

I would maybe consider painting the eves (I think that is what they are called - the area above the front door and window that has the vertical siding) a different color from the rest of the house. I was thinking some shade of blue, if keeping the horizontal siding white. You could then paint the front door that blue or whatever color. However that puts all the blue (or whatever contrasting color) on the right side of the house. To balance it out, I would put a Blue, etc flower box under the window on the left side only (assuming there is a window behind the shrubs you are taking down).

In front of the window on the right, and in front of the sidewalk there, I would perhaps put some smaller shrubs or make it a little mulched strip area with flowers, etc. - and then maybe do similar under the left side flower/window box.

    Cute place!

Bush is gone, its one window. Love the walkway, no painting the gables, heavier looking posts and tasks for the photo!! Appreciate the help!
