So I have early blight and not VW?

I would need to examine the plant closely. Verticillium wilt destroys the plant differently than early blight or septoria leaf spot.

Verticillium wilt will cause the plant to look wilted similar to lack of water, this is because VW effects the roots and blocks water uptake, and leave legions are V shaped and start on the leaf edges as if being burned with a flame. This is only unique to to VW and no other pathogen has this spread pattern.

Early blight and Septoria do not do this, these fungi feed on the leaves they infect and not the roots, and the rest of the plant remains healthy with no wilting. These Fungi start on the leaf as brown spots and a ring of yellow grows around the spot an grows like a bulleye. At the end you'll get a leaf looking like the one in the very bottom right corner.

When the fungus enters the branch it will kill the branch and the other leaves on the branch will wilt and dye, but only on that one branch.

Early blight

I'm not sure so use the pictures and descriptions and determine what you have. VW wilts with V shaped browning from the edges. Blight and septoria start from spots but there in no wilting of other plant parts. If it's VW pull the plant and dispose of it and do not compost If it is VW It will stay in the ground up to 10 years so you won't be able to use the ground for many years.

I had VW once and all the plants wilted like lack of water and the turned brown from the bottom up. I dissected the main stem and confirmed it was VW and didn't plant in the spot for over 10 years out of fear. Once you have VW you will never forget.

If it's late blight or septoria Cut off all infected branches and all branches with leaves that come within a foot of the ground. You may need to spray with a fungicide to control it. I don't know why you let branches sit on the ground in the first place, and if it's Blight or septoria clean up every bit of plant litter all season or it will be worse next year.
