NEVER!! That brick is sooo understated what a way to ruin a good thing. There is a lot of it and I might look at reducing it by covering some with dry wall but 'color' is not the issue and paint won't fix it.

I'd experiment with whitewashing the individual darker bricks to see if that change is enough for you.

I'm generally not a fan of painted brick, most of the time it's not done well. The whites are often too cool for the space. Or, the paint hides so much of the mortar and texture that the brick looks fake.

No. edit and simplify everything else.

No way would I paint it, the colors are very interesting and not overpowering at all. I think it’s fabulous … I’d embrace it as a great focal point. Light oak floors will look amazing with it!

If anything I would paint the wood on that FP wall and leave the brick and ditch the fake flowers . Post a pic once the floors are done and the new furniture in and maybe leave that wood and do it to match the floors .Is this the only space for a TV in the whole home?

I would never paint your brick, its beautiful. I would also leave the ceiling moulding stained like it is, since it goes with the wood mantle and above the mantle. Some fireplace bricks, call for a coat of wash on them, but, yours is not in that category.

I had the same thought as others. Paint the wood and leave the brick. It is a really nice space. Good luck with your new home.

I think some brick looks better painted but this brick is already very light. I would paint out all the wood, replace the carriage lanterns etc. If at that point you still decide to paint go ahead.
