Recessed lighting in living room advice

This is my friend's living room and we are trying to decide what recessed lighting arrangement we should install.
Felt that evenly spacing 6" recessed lighting across the room would not work well - too much overhead lighting and overall wouldn't look great.
What recommendations would you have for lighting options? Would want it to be practical, convenient and allow layering for an inviting/useful space.
Initially was thinking of something like :
Two angled lights towards above the fireplace mantle
Two angled lights towards the built in bookshelves on the right
Possibly one angled lights towards the wall to the left of built in bookshelves
"Normal" flush LED recessed lights, one in each corner of the room?
Possibly angled lights towards other areas/walls? Maybe onto window curtains? Behind seating?

7 4” cans. An eyeball over the fireplace, the rest in a grid 30” from the exterior walls. This is just the first layer of lighting. You also need table/ floor lamps.

Yes, use 4" cans.

4" only or even 3" and the rest as Hallett said. Lighting is layers not just pots.

Thanks for all the responses. Here are some additional photos.

Would it be a good idea to add "eyeball" lights to illuminate the bookshelves and adjacent wall? And would it be good to have 2 eyeball lights for the fireplace versus one?

Why the continued interest in eyeball lights when the advice you asked for all suggest can?

I received one suggestion for eyeball lights. It's a follow up question where the ask on spot or directional lights wasn't directly discussed. I'm here to learn and have productive discussions.
