I think you can still do the light pale blue solid or patterned pillows. It looks like the chairs in the dining area have blue and your furniture is light so I would not bring any reds or blacks to match the art. Pull from the lightest colors in the art.

Use the pink from the art. like shell colors.

I'm not a believer in matchy match....... but quite honestly? That changed your vibe in a really BIG way.

Ever other element, even the rug, feels East Coast coastal, -and while the art may have been really easy to link a vibe with a California Boho beach look? Not as much here. Try some soft gray and a bit of the turquoise. : )

Lower the art a bit as well. A bit too high.

Given the art’s prominence, suggest balancing with texture and pattern to make the space feel more connected. Complement art, but in an interesting way uding some black and avoid matchy/solid cushions. A black lamp would be a good choice, lower art a bit and drape the blanket over the basket.

Always think big picture when accessorizing.

thanks everyone. Jan, I realize it changed it entirely and i am really annoyed at myself but the art really spoke to us! Could i replace the rug or anything else in the room to catch the california boho look here?

i had thought i would need to add black on the pillows to balance out the black in the photo but i guess i am wrong there. my dining area has black and white prints and a tulip table with wishbone chairs so i thought the black and white of the photos might connect with the pillows on the couch as well.

Bring the red color down to your coffee table with a small Kalachoe plant in red. Easy to find in garden centers, supermarkets or home depot.

i think i might move it to the dining area although my fiance is about to have my head. i am so in love with the piece but really didn't thing about the space as a whole

great! and so if i swap them out what color pillows might you add on couch? was planning on adding a lamp for end table and not sure if it should be dark or light and finally i was adding a large planter in corner should it be light like a whitish or darker? ill send pics

I like the last lamp, if it will work scale wise.

Much of what is done is overdone, imo.

You need one black pillow with what you have already. ONE black pillow. That is it. A little bit of black goes a long way and one black pillow is all you really need in this case. More than one will be too much, imo.

Either of them could potentially work. Or any black pillow you like.

The point of the art switch is to allow you to RETAIN more of the sandy,neutral, soft, beach feel you began in your sitting area.

That doesn't mean you can't have a little nod to the bolder and darker feel in the art when it moves! A drop of charcoal will do it. Oatmeal and and black, like the lumbar will do it. One of the two pieces needs only a lumbar! you don't need to load up the couch .

The point? The black and white art OVER the couch, IS your "nod" to the more "city street art" feel in the other piece! A little goes a long way: )

Thx jan. going down there in jan and will buy a couple of pillows. i know i dont need every color everywhere i just never understand how to balance them. like i would have gotten a light lamp since the charcoal pillows add the touch of dark to tie into the black and white pics.

So i am going to be swapping the artwork like Jan had suggested. is it ok to keep the coffee table in this light wood or i am better off getting a darker table for this space? end tabel awful too i am afraid...... trying to finish this room this time around and i don't know how to do that. not sure of lamp style either once the ar is moved. suggestion for entire pic? am open to changing all of it including rug!
