Seek a stronger soft closing hardware or maybe add a second one.

Thanks Mark. We did use 2 that were suppose to hold up to 50lbs combined. I ordered another set from a different company hoping these were defective.

I have an oooooold scout kitchen box, which I love. Mine hinges the other direction ... that is, the lid opens up like a breadbox or an oven. This means the lid also provides a clean work space. Mine also has shelves, which keeps things organized.

Mine is much like this, only mine's metal and doesn't have legs -- we typically set it on a picnic table. We have plastic Dollar Store bins, which hold things like silverware /pull out easily.

Used to know that as a Chuck Wagon.

You could try a hydraulic lift for that weight. My husband did that for a built-in daybed that has storage under for bedding. Lifts super slow and stays open nicely. We have to push it closed gently.

Lift struts will work if they're the right size and they are installed correctly. The instructions that came with mine were difficult to decipher, but you want full extension when the lid is open and the right location for the mounting points for the piston to compress fully when closed.

Those might be adjustable resistance,look back to installation instructions. It will help by mounting hinges higher on sides and farther toward front.
