08 new build 2.5ton HVAC that died in 21 and was upgraded to 4.5ton has been good for 3yrs.
I came home to a hotbox with thermostat that was powerless,
I checked the drain sensor that cuts off power if clogged and the breaker in the handler
and it's good, So, to the breaker panel in the garage and the AC 30amp is good but heat 60amp is blown.
My thoughts before anything, was that the 30amp and 60 were for a 2ton, not a 5t inside and 4t outside =4.5t.
My AC guy said to up the
breaker amp by 5 to10 on each.
I'm no electrician, but I did work for my AC guy & his dad 35yrs ago and only paid cost for the install and travel expenses from Hou to Dal and meals. So, I can't ask him to come back and figure it out and I definitely don't want to call rip off AC companies that tried to get 10k for a line leak that wasn't alledgedly repairable and then 12k for a compressor that lasted another
6yrs.
Will the 10 or 12 gauge 30amp hold 35 or 40 and will the 6 gauge hold 70?
I probably am fine not upping the 30 since it only draws for a few seconds on start up.
I really don't know , I'm just a dumb trucker that took a different career path 34yrs ago..
