Adiantum aleuticum is native to the PNW so should do well here with routine deep watering to get established. Unless sheltered or protected from winter rains, it will survive quite nicely on its own over winter without attention. Adiantum pedatum is the East coast version and that does not do as well in our climate. Tends to dwindle and peter out after a season or two.

Thank you Gardengal. Did you mean it does NOT need to be protected in winter? If so I got lucky. It will check with the local nursery to confirm if it is native variety. most likely it is.

Shouldn't need any particular attention. I grew one for many years in a previous garden and rarely even needed to water it in summer. As a northwest native, it should be well adapted to our climate once established.

Are the maiden ferns expected to show some life by now. After the January snow, I only see dead leaves.
