A long wet spring in MA Boston ’burb z 5a was followed by 10 days in the 90s. and no rain

The plants must have been using the water in the moist soil because nothing flagged in the heat so I did not water. (and i was sequestered in an air conditioned room)Stupid rookie mistake. No, a rookie would have worried and watered.

Two days after the heat broke most of the perennials were limp;some were flat on the ground. A week later leaves on trees were limp and at two weeks many woodies have yellowing leaves. Now i cant get the hoses placed fast enough.

I'm sure many of you know this but I am surprised how long it takes to hydrate arid soil. i ran a sprinkler 12 hours last night. Perennials and shrubs looked revived. But when i dug down only the top 3 or 4 inches of soil were moist. Deeper than that the soil was dry. I will be making a circuit in the yard running a slow trickle for hours on all the ornamentals., rueing the days i failed to water.
