I found two roses looked weird but not so bad. They both are the 2nd year in my garden.

That crown looks normal...just keep an eye on it, though. Crown gall looks more wrinkled/gnarly, like the shell of an English Walnut. That crown tissue is rather smooth. Our roses often have more pronounced crowns as that one has, than we are aware of. We just can't see the bulging crown parts because they are either slightly or fully submerged in the soil.

Agree that it's just a normal bud union. Gall does indeed resemble a cauliflower-like prtruberance.

Beekeepers Gloves are also excellent and come in Small sizes. Cheap also. I do my heavy duty pruning with those in the spring.

Vaporvac - These are nice, and they look very sturdy yet soft. I love this pair because when the garden gloves get dirty, I can just get a new pair and keep the sleeves. I was online shopping for the gloves yesterday and could not decide if I should buy the ones with goatskin or just cotton above the wrist. After seeing these sleeves, I am pretty sure I want the goatskin. I am to order one pair. Thank you for sharing these with me.

How tight is the upper cuff when you put them on? I have skinning arm and its circumference is about 11 inches.

I have the beekeeper's gloves and like those But sometimes the thorns do get through the fabric. Goat skin is truly the best for thorns. Although other leather will work it's just the goat skin is quite soft. I'm liking me so far because they fit loose around the arm. The 1st ones I showed Above Have velcro to tighten the upper arm to fit. This seemed fine with me Without the velcro But if you are handy at all with the sewing machine or glue you could put some strips of velcro at the top to hold them tighter. I also have slim arms and I'm debating Whether or not I need to do that. I will know that they do not slide down. My name is issue Is I wear you PF short sleeve T. shirt For sunscreen And do not like the skin exposure between periods I hate to apply Sunscreen so prefer these solutions. I hope you can understand this. Anyway I now have 3 or even 4 gloves, Wrong word. That should be I have 4Arm coverings Will be using them for different things and different places. These new goats can ones are gonna be great for all of these Pruning I have to do in the next week or so. My garden was neglected for these past 2 years and I've been helping a friend with his garden and now that that's in shape I get to go back to My garden and finish what I started. I totally understand what you meant by preferring the sleeves over the sunscreen. I do not like the sunscreen on the skin as well.

I can imagine how much pruning you have to do - Alot, alot, alot. Three of my roses were eating by rabbits last winter to 4 inches above the ground. Now they are about 45" to 60" tall. I am very surprised how fast the roses can grow.

I added the wire around the flower bed this spring after I noticed the rose canes were eaten by the rabbits. 😁
