Most adults hate bunks but I am not sure what you are asking what ever you get will need to be LED or someone will get burned . Sorry the whole idea is a bit weird .

So fun! i love that - what about a mini sconce with a ceramic shade? i would not want the glare from an exposed bulb (those are trendy right now) and I wouldn’t want it to be too precious - maybe something like this?

eta friends have a lake house with a bunk room and all the college kids and 20 somethings love crashing in there - they have a blast

You also might consider removing the recessed light over the top right bunk. It's very close to the bed and could possibly be a fire hazard to whoever sleeps there.

We have another guest room that is very gracious, but we also have a big family and a big house, so the bunks are a fun addition for cousin sleepovers, etc. We live in a place that gets lots of tourist visitors, so it will be nice to be able to give parents a guest room and throw the kids in the basement, rather than having them take over every sofa. I visited friends' cabins and beach houses in college, and bunk rooms like this (but with little beds!) were a blast. So I'm not too worried about whether or how we'll use the space, or if some stranger on the Internet thinks it's weird 😂

I like Sabrina's first suggestion. I would avoid anything that sticks out from the wall since that seems likely to get broken with teenagers goofing around and having fun.

Ikea carries an adjustable light that will meet many needs (note price), doesn’t stick out too far and has an 8 ft wire which could mean you might not need an electrician if a wall socket is nearby.

I thinking something close to the wall because as someone else said there is VERY LITTLE space—-
Maybe even a puck light that is low wattage—just enough to read by because a tablet or phone will already be lighted….

Those lights are cute but I can only think sleepers would be hitting their heads on the shades—
If it is only a single sleeper then probably wouldn’t be as likely as if there are two kids/adults. I think the functionality is more important than the appearance in this location

I would recommend a "linear wall mount light fixture" (google image it). Choose one that doesn't stick out too far.

Any of the mentioned examples are not really functional as they obviously stick out too far, would be too close to the mattress (especially at the top bunks), and provide more of a spot-thrown task light where you would want to light up the entire bed space (especially at the bottom bunks), or direct the light throw perpendicular to the wall (right in your eyes). If it's in the cards I would also move/remove the recessed fixtures, because it doesn't work here and even with a single bed typically a 4-die grid does not work well in bedrooms.

I think the white Ikea sconce shown above by Maureen would be the perfect fit with your bunk beds and decor... and the price is right!

My fantasy is to convert an area off the upstairs to a sweet little bunkroom. We don't have grandchildren, my kids are too young to have kids but one day it would be very cool.

I guess it is all about what works for you really . All of us kids slept in the atttic in our cabin ar the lake no head room for bunks it was fun but not when we were adults with SOs that drove my Dad to build an addition we for sure did not want to share

A hard-wired reading light with a solid shade is what's needed. This Arne wall light has an adjustable shade, dimmer, and protrudes from the wall only 3-1/4".

IMO the bulkhead lights illustrated earlier are inappropriate for this application: too large, unshaded, and too close to sleepers' heads. Imagine trying to read in bed next to these lights.

Yes, that recessed light would be annoying for the person in the top-right bunk. I hope there is room lighting forward of the bunks that can be turned on independently of the cleaning lights. Otherwise the lower bunks will always be caves. The bunks should not be illuminated exclusively by the wall-mounted reading lights next to each bed. It's not clear what the switches adjacent to the outlets in each bunk. Maybe they control the reading lights.

You enter the room and flip the switch at the door. That controls the recessed lights. Otherwise it would be dark and you'd have run to the bed and jump on it to reach the switch for your bunk light. Then that light following above suggestions is moreso a reading light (and for most examples will light up the soffit above or a hot spot on the comforter). Doesn't help if you are getting dressed or unpacking a suitcase.

Regardless of the type of wall lights installed, they won't be reachable from outside the bunk beds. Occupants will have to rely on room lights (e.g., from recessed lights) to perform tasks such as "getting dressed or unpacking a suitcase". If the OP is concerned that visitors will have to get into bed in the dark, he could equip the room light with a countdown timer-switch. (I'd remove or disconnect the recessed light above the upper-left hand bunk.) I still think that the best wall lights will be reading lights, not bulkhead or other, larger types.
