Why are you locked into that particular size? Are the cabinets already ordered?

I am 5’4”. Husband is 5’8”. Neither of the two SubZero fridges we’ve had over the past 34 years, have been too high for us to reach the top shelf. My mother was 5’2”, and didn’t have a problem, either.

So, I have to ask…have you ever used a SZ in the past, to come to your conclusion? Have you at least gone to a showroom/store, to test out the height?

Yes, youre rigjt the SZ would do it but we dont want to spend $12K on a frig. hence the challenge

we also have 15 ft ceilings which is why 84” looking at alternatives to SZ.

At 24-25" deep, those built-in refrigerators are so shallow that they have to be tall to provide an adequate amount of interior space. The Dacor DRF365300AP performed well enough in CR's tests to earn a recommended rating. But it's still expensive at $8500 without doors.

You might buy a shorter, counter-depth refrigerator and design the cabinetry to minimize the protrusion of the doors into the kitchen. For example, the doors of the 71-1/2" tall Bosch B36CT80SNS ($3500) which performed adequately in CR's tests* would extend only 3-3/4" beyond the adjacent cabinets. Interestingly, the installation instructions (page 15) for that model show the refrigerator's hinges adjusted so the doors open 90 degrees and the refrigerator pushed back into the (deeper) cutout.

Just be aware, a cabinet/counter depth fridge, is a misnomer. They still protrude beyond the counter by at least 3 inches. Even installed within a surround, they never look built-in.

If you choose the Bosch mentioned by wdccruise and set the doors to open 90 degrees, you can pull it out 4 inches if you want to remove drawers for cleaning. It'll look built-in except when you open it.

Right, it really should be called "counter-depth cabinet refrigerator" since it's only the refrigerator's cabinet -- excluding doors and handles -- that are typically 24-25" deep. And door thicknesses vary tremendously. One must carefully read spec sheets before choosing.
