I never really thought about the farmhouse look. We thought black hardware with the gray would look nice vs gray with nickel .. but with the white cabinets im not sure but if we tire of the hardware finish that should be easy enough to swap out!

With so many decisions it can be overwhelming. Think big picture and how all the spaces will all connect. Hopefully you are choosing based on actual samples in the showroom and have lined up combinations next to each other. Are you getting help/advice from their consultant? FYI: If you end up not liking the hardware, it‘s not inexpensive to replace and your lighting and faucet may no longer work as nicely.

Regarding the rug: I think it‘s a mistake not to continue the same flooring into the great room (both visually and for practical purposes with 3 children). If it‘s cost, I’d save somewhere else that’s not as important and suggest lighter LVP. If you decide on carpeting, hopefully there are other types/quality options and match to kitchen flooring‘s undertone.

First I assum the white kitchen is yours and please take those cabinets to the ceiling. As for white or gray why are those the only choices ?I see issues with layout that should be more of a cooncern first if getting new cabinets . I love gray but not for cabinets , first grays are hard to get right when all together and the floor will be hard to choose the right gray. I have to say white quatz , white tile boring and honestly I think very quickly will be that dated thing everyone wants to avoid . First go look at some real stones htat have awesome colors in them to work with . Backsplash is along with wall color the last choices you make after all the rest is in. What is youractual style the white kitchen tells me nothing. Show us your LR that will tell us more . Post the pics here in a comment DO NOT start another post .

I vote for white all over except for the island - that one in gray. Consider NOT going with gray floors. A nice medium to light color would be lovely.

Yes this is a new build. The gray photo i posted is of the layout that we are going with for our kitchen. At the moment we are only planning on having 42 in upper cabinets. When we built our current home in 2014 i really wanted bright white cabinets but that wasnt an option. This is our current kitchen in all its lived in glory!

My thought with the carpet in the great room is to make the great not only cozy but to separate the space a little bit from kitchen to great room.. but i am not opposed to just doing lvp and a large rug? The library off to the side of the foyer is going to have carpet and french doors otherwise the remainder of the first floor will have the lvp (kitchen, mud room, foyer, dining room). This is our layout. The red is where i am considering putting the great room carpet and a view of the great room from the kitchen.. (this is of the model home -but same layout.

Continue the LVP throughout..no carpet..this is a open concept so LVP with a large comfy rug for the great room…also no carpet in the Den/library….continue that LVP throughtout. Thanks for the extra info…very exciting time with a new build.

I chose a gray kitchen. I fell in love with gray cabinetry after a trip to Colonial Williamsburg Virginia. Gray is a classic color for a kitchen; and has “stood the test of time”! Best of luck on your journey!

I would rethink the flooring choice. Notice that the inspo photos you posted have medium brown, not grey, floors. White subway tile with a medium brown floor will be timeless and means you can go with any color cabinet your heart desires. https://www.instagram.com/reel/CnFZig_BaJT/

Just an FYI - grey has been in vogue for quite a while now & is becoming much less popular. It could definitely date a project. A white kitchen will never go out of style.

We are in process of a small new build, we chose a creamy white for cabinets and a medium dark LVP. Small house with woods around us. Chose white shades for walls and will add color in other ways.

Hello. I’m building a new home and I’m stumped on my kitchen cabinetry choices. What are your thoughts of creamy white cabinets satin finish with Arctic white quartz counters and this Moss green matte finish with oatmeal stain for my island? My hardwood floors will be 4” white oak with a clear poly matte finish. I love green and I think it’s a neutral green, but wanted it to be timeless!

@Original author: I do not think gray works with a darker brown flooring. I would do a sandy/creamy beige-ish floor and then you can mix and match with white cabinets, gray island and backsplash. Black OR nickel fixtures will be fine imo.

We just finished a kitchen remodel, went with white cabinets and a navy blue island. We have a small kitchen though so did not want too much dark color in there.

Thanks all I am feeling pretty good about the white cabinets with the brown lvp and will still probably do the gray but for the island. Still debating about the carpet in the great room idea but saw a lot of lovely plush rugs in the store yesterday evening that just might further convince me. The next debate is to upgrade all of the bathroom cabinets to white. We were originally going to do a dark brown umber (level 1) in the bathrooms but im thinking the same white cabinet (upgrade) throughout would be better and brighter. There will be a full bath on the main floor, and upstairs there will be the master, a jack and jill and a prince(ss) suite.

Honestly lighter flooring is your friend. No carpet, it completely ruins the point of the open concept plan you’ve chosen.

What climate do you live in? If it is a rainy/cloudy area and you have limited natural light in the kitchen. I would stick with a warm white. You can always use bronze/gold/black finishings to create extra warmth and design. After living in a dark home and cloudy climate for over 3 years, I am now getting rid of the gray-green walls and honey oak cabinets. Things are looking much brighter, lighter, and larger. I live in Michigan so yes there are a lot of long gray days in the winter! We have off white cabinets black granite and dark brown floors right now and yes there are definitely days the kitchen feels dark!

We lived in Shelby! 26 and Van Dyke off Aurora Park…it has been about ten years ago. My mom lives in Macomb! off M59 by Lakeside Mall…small world! yes we are forever Michiganders! we have lived here in Bloomfield Hills and still have not went to that Target🤷🏼‍♀ I am in Macomb all the time caring for my mom.

Choose any color you like. If and when you sell the new owners can decide what colors they want. I personally and both of my daughter's like gray. My cabinets are wood with gray stain on the top and black stain on the bottom. The stains let the wood grain show through.

Our $ was tight so I found a very pretty wood grain in natural wood colors of laminate. It works perfectly for my husband and I. The carpenter beveled the edges which made it even nicer. I use pledge on it as it helps to repel dirt and spills and keeps the counter top Shiney. I'm also thinking about putting a floor restorer type wax on it.

I also like greens Actually it's my favorite color. Moss green and sage are nice compliment colors in my opinion.

Have fun do what You want. It's your home that you will see every day. If you get tired of something you can always change it. In fact we have been in this home that we had built six years ago with the same color on all the walls and ceilings in the whole 1750 sq ft.

The color looks white but actually it is a soft light gray. I should have gone a little more gray. Anyway I am working on one room at a time changing the colors of the walls and some furniture in the living area and dining area

This is our retirement home so if we don't change things now we won't be able to physically.

I went to the tile showroom today and was able to look at samples of the modern white ash (and the other two colors) for the backsplash. Lyra quartz for the counter tops

When you are doing something that is costly, going with classic finishes is always a big help. I work in historic restorations and have renovated several old house kitchens. To appeal to modern families, the kitchen has to be top notch, but there is no reason it cannot be timeless. If you have dark stain on your hardwood floors, the most cost effective and long term solution is to refinish them and then just put on a tough varnish. My floor refinishing guy charges less per square foot to do this than it costs to do LVP (unless you find a big sale and lay it yourself). Natural wood is far more durable than LVP and will keep the value of your house higher. It is not trendy, which LVP is going to be seen as in no time. It also hides scratches, resists stains, and is easy to maintain. I restore wood floors whenever possible, always natural - to fix a scratch or traffic pattern wear, it is a small matter of sanding a bit and putting on more varnish. And natural wood variations do not show normal day to day dirt and fuzz like dark floors (which are a nightmare!). Then I would go with a classic color for your cabinets - gray will go out of style soon and already is. The shaker style doors you chose are timeless, but I would go with a knob on them instead of a pull. That way, you can change out the hardware that is trendy and have so many more options later on. The most choice going forward will be in knobs, but drawers are fine to do a 3" spaced pull of any kind - there are so many choices for those (I prefer bin pulls, which are also available in the standard spacing). I would also go with a white, cream, or oyster (cool off-white that is more faintly taupe than gray) enamel paint finish at least on the top cabinets if not all of them, and if you want contrast, either a mid brown (mahogany) stain on the bottom cabinets or add contrast with other elements that are easier to replace. Stained cabinets are more resistant to showing wear - the dings and scratches that are normal are much easier to touch up. You could use a color on the island, which can be a nice accent, and then you just have that piece to change if you decide to later on. Backsplash tile is also a pain to replace, but less expense and trouble than refinishing or replacing cabinets. If the cabinets are a timeless color, you can change the whole room with textiles, rugs, window treatments, lighting, art, wall paint colors, etc. For countertops, I still like granite best because it can handle hot pans directly placed on it, is crazy durable, and comes in a huge array of colors and patterns that can mimic soapstone, marble, and pretty much anything. It costs less than quartz, which doesn't have many benefits to compete with it. Here, you can introduce gray without trend - granite is a natural material and has its own integrity. We put honed black granite into one of the houses I did and it looks just like soapstone but is bombproof. Another house has a white granite that has a marble-like feel. I think quartz looks fake - it is not a natural material. I like to extend the stone backsplash up to about 8 or 9" - it is a historic, classic and rich look and will not go out of style like our current "no backsplash, only tile" trend. It also means that you may not need tile backsplash in addition, and can add paint, bead board (another totally historic classic material), pressed tin - the possibilities are endless. I have been putting granite on the wall behind the stove too, though tile or even stainless steel works well too (and you can get lovely shelves or utensil rod/hook accessories for stainless steel panels that will make your kitchen look like a chef's). You can never go wrong with a historic look; it never goes out of style and can be endlessly played with using changes in lighting fixtures, hardware, paint colors, textiles, and other easy to replace and less expensive items.

My kitchen remodel was in 2018. I was facing the same situations...and a budget. I love my kitchen. I have white subway tile from Daltile, Quartz counter called Vanilla from Arizona tile. I went with BM White Dove uppers and BM Indian River for the lowers. I had to work with existing very light travertine floors. My hardware is Amerock (sp?) Esquire line in gunmetal. Not very expensive from Home Depot. Best of luck !

Ok! Here is what we came up with! White cabinets with the dark gray for the island . We are going to do LVP on the entire lower level in toasted taupe (the color under the white cabinet). Backsplash is white hearth ash and the quartz is Miami Vena. Master and main bath get white cabinets with cabris fair ceramic tile. The kids bathrooms are getting the brown cabinets (we might paint them - my oldest daughter really wants a pink bathroom). I forgot to take a photo of the carpet but it is the same as the one i previously posted. I am happy with our choices and thank everyone again for all of their help! The house should be complete some time in April or May. 😊
