Yes, I just removed two or three plants yesterday, thankfully not many tarnished plant bugs and other sucking insects this year and hope the disease hasn't taken too much of a hold, will be keeping a close eye!

Yes, had mostly resembled your first and fourth photo, some even with foliage where the petals should be, I'm eyeing a few more that look suspicious.

@FrozeBudd_z3/4 thank you! i guess i had better get pulling ny White Swan Echinacea as that is the most suspicoiys one to me and the one you had mentioned. i hope you do not heve any more issies and wont nred to rip oout anymote!

That is the main reason (coupled with mites) why I stopped growing all echinacea :(,

Was about fifteen years ago, a good many plants came down with aster yellows, thankfully then had a very long break from the issue until last year and now hope to nip that before am removing countless plants.

Beesandblues, some pretty scary stuff in there, I've not seen the mite damage and hope never shall!

Beesandblues, when plants are affected with mites or asters, must they be removed? And does the soil need treatment?

Plants infected with asters yellows must be removed, if it just has mites just pinch off the flower and then clean up leaf debre around plant in the fall. The mites live and feed in the flower buds during the summer and will winter over in the debree. As far as Asters Yellows goes it CAN' T survive outside a living plant so no need to remove soil, just be sure to remove all the roots.

Helpful information! I had some very pretty double scoop Echinaceas that had the mites come back year after year, so I had to pull them. Maybe if I had known to clean them up the first time I saw something going wrong, they could have made it.
