Catalog cover. Throwback?

I like it, but it looks so different from the usual style of this company (being cagey in case mentioning the name causes issues).

It is nice. Is it ... French country?

I get RL vibes more than French country.

    Traditional skewing transitional?

The colors and wall paper ... but yeah I get that, too.

I hotly disliked the wallpaper. Thought the botanical prints look like cave drawings.....then loved the furniture and chinoiserie. It's a disturbing combination. I look to Ballard Designs to lead...not confuse. I usually keep a catalog on the table for a few days...this one...I discarded immediately.

I feel like this trying to get a bit too much of what they have inside on the cover.

The room overall skews masculine except for the wallpaper (even the vases are big). At least historically this room would be considered masculine, rooms have gotten so masculine that any non-geometric pattern or something floral makes a room feminine now, no matter what they really look like.

Anyway, if you take the paper out, it's a masculine room.

Thanks for sharing this, bb, I hadn’t seen it yet. I like it a lot … I’m one who really loves this type of retro traditional look. What a refreshing change from what I’ve been seeing everywhere for the past 10+ years.

I think it would be great with a striped paper

Somewhere I read that the prices for brown furniture sold at antiques stores are going up because younger shoppers are starting to appreciate craftsmanship and are into living a ’vintage’ lifestyle. Younger shoppers today are also considering future disposal of poorly made items including clothing and furniture.

I’ve seen our granddaughters do a complete 180 when it comes to cheap clothing. A few months ago they were Shein shppers, they have now learned better.

I do not consider Ballard Designs to be a leader in the design world. I once did, then I visited a Ballard store. The quality of goods is mediocre, in real life.

My antique furniture is quickly on the down slide. Add a cat that has decided to "redecorate" by claw, I need all new furniture. I just hate to pitch something that is so well made frame-wise. It's very sturdy and stylish (to me). The mohair fabric has given up the ghost, along with the springs in one end of the sofa where my big butt sits. I've had the spring work repaired once but it went boyeeng again.

I agree with your thoughts on Ballards, Maddielee. I’m not particularly fond of Ballards.

Now barncatz read the mood of the room right. The solid dark teal wall color is gorgeous and sets off the light colored fireplace, art and the reddish furniture.

I recently purchased goose down Euro & King pillows from Ballard and couldn't be happier with the quality.

schoolhouse....Me too. My cats have shredded my Jacobean printed linen slip covers....luckily...the chairs survived.

Ballard is mediocre but I think they offer tasteful options for immediate ship and a pretty low pricepoint.

I think it is really the art that is masculine.

Out of curiousity, I checked their website. This is what I associate with Ballards, although they're missing the big clock here

YES! @barncatz. That is what I was talking about as their ”usual style.” A little coastal; a little farmhouse-lite; a little ”single girl’s apartment” (thinking of a few years back when they did a lot of images and objects from Paris).

Pal, I don’t know how or why but the room looks 10x more busy without the wallpaper; I like it. And while I also like striped wallpaper I think in this instance it would make the room a lmost a caricature of English country house-ish design.

Ballard hasn’t been the same since Helen Weeks sold the company, and that was many many years ago. I bought a painted secretary of Italian manufacture from Ballards in 2021 that I waited 8 or 9 months for that is really lovely. I bought it on sale (20% off from 4k, IIRC) and when it finally arrived I was so happy I would have gladly paid full price for it. It is the only piece of big case goods furniture I’ve purchased from them, other items were small occasional tables, a gold leaf framed blackboard (from 1994) , parsons chair, that sort of thing. My favorite decor items are metal tole painted flowers on pedestals and unique figural salt and pepper containers, both from Bunny Williams’ collection, different and nicely made. A lot their stuff is mediocre and some is just plain junk; as when shopping almost anywhere you have to be careful, choosy, and willing to repack and send back.

I always liked wallpaper. We moved into our previous house in 1990 and within a few years, I had papered the kitchen, entry way and hallway, powder room, and dining room. I thought it added such warmth. We lived there for close to 30 years and most of the paper still looked good. When it came time to sell 6 years ago, wallpaper was the worst thing anyone wanted to see so we had it removed and painted in bland colors. The house sold very quickly so I think it was probably the right thing to do but really it was so much nicer before the bland.

In our current house, I realize that whatever rooms we have painted, I 've gone for very soft colors. I do like them but I think I'm getting antsy for some stronger colors. I'm not sure I will consider wallpaper again ( though maybe for a smaller room) even as much as I do like it.

I'll come to admire it in your home. :).

I think that room on the cover, while busier than I would want, is very warm and inviting. It also looks "complete".

The only thing I like is the coffee table. The sofa is not bad but still boring.

I only have a couple of pieces of furniture that could be described as traditional - I'm too much of a minimalist in my preferences, which is why I like modern Italian furniture. In fact, I only buy Italian design magazines.
