I think the worst would be trying to sew those different fibers together.

The best would be a child loving on that quilt forever, dragging it everywhere and snuggling with it when feeling down and snuggling with it when feeling happy.

I agree with Theresa, go for it. I would prewash all of the fabrics just to be safe, but why not?

Yay! Baby is due in Sept and I've been procrastinating about what pattern to use. I'm energized with a three color trellis one and have these fabrics already. Great reminder to pre wash.

To answer my own question:

The purple triangles didn't line up and I just ripped out microscopic stitches because one row of stitch-in-the-ditch ended up with the top cotton/ poly fabric much wider than the shiny backing at the end of the row. Just as well the new parents aren't too detail minded. Baby showed up a month early at 3LB 12OZ.

I appreciated your comments. Now that I've used shiny prom dress fabric--it's not scary.
