Question - have you already purchased the sectional? The reason I'm asking is because sectionals are rarely a good idea in a room. Usually, it is better to purchase two sofas OR a sofa and two chairs.

If you haven't already purchased it (or if you have but are able to return it if you decide it would be best), if you draw the entire room - showing doorways/windows/fireplace/etc. you will receive quite a bit of help re: what furniture pieces + layout would work best for your room (also include a few details about who will be using the furniture + if there are any other important details).

I purchased new furniture for my hearth room recently - and I was set on ordering a sectional (or at least a large sofa with a chaise). The room is 16' x 19.5'. After reading MANY posts on here, I realized that it would be much better to purchase a sofa + two chairs (not accent chairs that are for show - but fairly wide and deep ones - with removable combination high density foam + down cushions - they are really comfortable + look nice).

I also purchased a really large ottoman that matches the sofa - so, it can be used like a chaise if I wanted. However, I rarely use it that way (I am having a wood waterfall table made that slides over part of the ottoman - so, it can be used as a coffee table + an ottoman - much better than the tray I originally purchased for it!)

Now - back to your question re: the ottoman you posted!! LOL!

I like caramel colored leather (like your ottoman) - it is very versatile. It can be paired with charcoal.

This ottoman is oversized for this sectional. On your sketch for the sectional, you are missing the extended portion of it which will only leave 29" room for the width. The ottoman's width is 39.5".

What is your room layout? where are the windows and the walk flow? Its a bit hard to say whether its a good fit as we need to see the scale of the room, the amount of light in it, etc. could you upload a picture of that room for clarity?

Hi DomaVita, the sketch is the exact configuration I purchased, of the sofa 121x 108, thank you. So i think 39.5x 39.5 or 52" x 39" might actually fit?

Hi @dani_m08 thank you for your advice, we have already purchased to sectional and it functions well for us , we are not planning on replacing it for awhile, but we do need to find an ottoman to serve as a coffee table to go with it in the mean time.

The 52”x39” will look more in harmony with the sectional shape, especially if the ottoman serves the purpous of a coffee table. What fabric is that sectional upholstered with? or it is also leathers?

@DomaVita Design the sectional is a cozy fabric, I'm not sure how to describe it, it's soft casual fabric rather than cold formal kind if that makes sense

then I suggest using a rug that reflects same feeling (not a rough and coarse one, like jute or sisal, not bamboo, hemp or seagrass either). If you choose natural materials over synthetic, I would aim for wool or cotton. Those are soft and durable at the same time.

I feel sofa with chaise end and large ottoman/coffee table are more current than sofa and 2 chairs. The sectional and ottoman allows more layout positions.

Too hard to balance a drink or food on an ottoman.

Select an ottoman that works in the space and one of the new ottoman tables that will slide over the ottoman for dual purpose.

Here's another way to have both a table and an ottoman

Easy to deal with snacks on an ottoman. Use a tray. Your laptop can go on the ottoman. Leave your water or drink in the bottle with cap. The floor is available too. Set things up for comfortable daily living.

Sorry but the surface area of a tray works for one or two drinks, that's all. Additionally, it's too hard to utilize the ottoman for feet when you're trying to not disturb the tray with the stuff on it.

It's about use. You use a water bottle with a cap for activities. Not a glass. When you're using the space for daily chunks of time with family use a water bottle with a cap. Put it on the floor. Everyone supplies themselves. No tray with a decorative vase and flower.

You can put anything you want in a bottle. Even a glass bottle. For group or family movie time or sports event watching.

My daughter has promised me that when I am old and feeble, she will put my vodka in a sippy cup.

I found at a yard sale years ago a 3' round Indian brass tray. I used it on the large ottoman when I need a coffee table. It is so heavy and assures me it would take a wide receiver to tip it over. There are some on ebay, which I was going to recommend, but, was shocked at the prices. Maybe you will come across one in a shop.
