Wow, we had this in our kitchen as a kid! Armstrong, I believe.

I think that is what is under our thick white ceramic tiles, that we think were put in in the ’80s. Do we live in the same house?? I have hated the tile since we first looked at the house, 20 years is a long hate. But I worry if whatever is under it has asbestos, it is from 1960. We see glimpses of the floor under a cabinet.

How hard was it to remove the tiles?

It's vinyl flooring, not linoleum, actually. That pattern was ubiquitous in the 60s & early 70s! It was in just about every home I can remember (my grandmother had it in a lovely aqua). I wish the manufacturers still made it. It would be great in a midcentury home kitchen/den area today.

Here's a brochure I found on ebay: Armstrong Tessera Colron chip. But I think Armstrong had other lines that were similar, & the other popular brands had their versions too.

Armstrong recently introduced a vinyl tile "terrazzo" which is similar in spirit, but it looks more like natural terrazzo that your tile. But I believe yours might be vinyl color chips whereas this may be a digital print.

@bpath, that's funny! We have actually lived in this house 20 years as well.

We are having a contractor do the remodel, as we are incompetent as far as remodeling skills go, but those little black holes are actually nails, I think! Not sure why. The floor got taken up reasonably fast.

Anyway, due to a very tight budget, we are going with a sandstone-y laminate.
