That is an extremely high TV. Is there nowhere else in the room to place it? It is really ergonomically incorrect to have to crane your neck to view a TV that high.

If you are going to keep the TV and everything else that is attached to it in that location, I wouldn't worry too much about what the mantle and everything else looks like. Just paint the diagonal wood and mantle the same color as the walls.

I would choose a color in the stone and paint the whole wall that color.

if you are keeping all the components, the darker the better.

Remove the wood and the TV form above the mantel. Show us the whole room , take those silly shelves off the wall and I agree a wall color in a shade from the stone I lke this one with wood floors and stone I cut it 25-50% often . It is a BM color and works really well in most spaces . Please post pics here in a comment of the whole room if you really want help.

I would remove the whole wood wall/shelving/tv arrangement and find a better (lower) place for your tv. The fireplace can be lovely with just the walls being repaired and painted the same color as the rest of the room.

It looks like the entire thing was constructed for television viewing. It’s too high for your neck to tolerate for long periods.

As Patricia asked, can you show the whole room? There could be better ways to arrange all of it so the tv can get off that high perch.

Thank you all for your input. I definitely agree with the electronics.. however, I have teenagers, a husband, and a dog so… Also with our awkward room of a billion openings.. I struggle with the set up. Background.. we just had our kitchen remodeled and opened the wall a bit. So I am now trying to improve the other areas. Don’t look at the entry.. there will be new closets, door, console/mirror. Also I plan to redo/improve the shelving accents, get rid of the giraffe, the awful picture, etc. That said, I would love any advice/opinions you might have. TY!

For size… the creme rug is an 8x10 and yes the couch is huge.

It looks like you have the perfect wall for all the media. The couch is so wrong for this space. Does it come apart to be used as separate pieces? It is completely blocking the entry to this room. Can you get new furniture? That is what I would do - save up and then deal with moving all the electronics.

If you could post some dimensions of the room ( sizes of doorways , fireplace etc ) , that would be really helpful. There are a few designers on here who are amazing at laying out living rooms!

I understand the appeal of sectionals, but in this case I think separate pieces and comfortable chairs would be better.

I see a busy family in need of storage solutions for electronics and display areas for objects. What about building in some cabinetry and shelving on the longest wall of your room? If building in won’t work maybe a long console with the television mounted above for more comfortable viewing. Your TV would then be visible from the kitchen. I would put a sofa with the back toward the kitchen and add chairs along the wall across from your fireplace. Could be swivels to face tv when needed. This also cleans up your entry. It’s much more pleasing when entering when you are not confronted with a view of the rear of the sofa.

Echoing the suggestion for you to post exact measurements of the living room. The big wall is under utilized and you need help with furniture placement.

Also let the pros know what the family count is. We know there is you and the beautiful dog.

I agree with others that the TV is very high with wires hanging all over. How about if you turned your sectional in the way shown below and placed your TV on the back wall like this:

I don't have a lot of experience laying out furniture ( there are others here who are sooooo much better ) . I tried laying out the living room using your current sofa. It would just about fit if you turned it and leave a small walkway to get past. I would offset the tv so it is convenient for everyone on the sofa and you can add a couple of swivel chairs for gaming time. This will give you storage as well.

Currently you are about 150" from the tv to the sofa. This plan you are about 177" - so a little further away - maybe get a larger tv?

The great thing about this is that you can try moving the sofa now and live with it for a while. You don't even have to move the tv yet.
