Kitchen/Dining Wall Ideas

I have a long wall in my kitchen/dining room and I’m not sure what to do I with it to maintain the visual and physical flow of the space.

My style is a mix of Scandinavian, mid mod, boho, and California cool.

Any and all suggestions are welcome! I need help.

The classic choice for that spot would be a buffet, a piece of furniture that would hold a lamp (you need light there) and possibly have drawers to hold serving pieces, silverware, trays, placemats, and table linens. The wall is a place for artwork or a spot to frame and hang kid art, family photos, textiles, etc.

You could buy a buffet, or create one with cabinetry.

The other option would be to place some pantry storage in that spot, but I prefer solutions that give you more horizontal surfaces.

That is the perfect spot for a sideboard with a fabulous piece of artwork hung above it.

@eam44 we are definitely looking for a bit more storage for our small kitchen so a buffet with some storage sounds like a great idea!

Do you think it’s worth doing shelving above the buffet at all?

I’m also curious what color buffet is suggested to pair with our light colored floors.

Opt for abstract art with flowing, organic shapes in earthy tones. These artworks will complement your color scheme and introduce a modern, sophisticated edge, seamlessly tying your decor together and making the space feel like home.

Possibly, but see what furniture piece you end up choosing first, and how things play out with space.

These are mid century pieces, so they may not be your vibe, but you get the idea of how many options you have for different types of storage.

If you really need pantry storage, it makes sense to consider doing this with kitchen cabinetry instead. You could combine purposes with two tall pantries on either side of a buffet space made of lower cabinets. Keep your outlet in mind, though. In fact, if you go this route pay an electrician to move your outlet up the wall, make sure to leave clearance for light switches, and don’t build out beyond wall depth either.

This is not a scandi look, but it is part of one of my favorite posts, and gives you an idea of the flexibility IKEA can offer if you choose to do this that way.

I wouldn't do anything tall or with tall sides. Sideboard is the way to go here.

12" deep pantry with doors. For as much as you want.
