The Vinca vines will just climb over the violets. Ive gotten rid of periwinkle by pulling out all above ground growth frequently, to starve the roots. Plants that are taller than Viola might shade and slow down the spread. Plants like Prunella vulgaris, Circaea canadensis, Sanicula canadensis and Geum canadense.

Personally, I am fond of both periwinkle (and violets). Its spread is "confined" by our brick walkway on one side and an 18-inch tall stone wall on the other. Bed is about 20 feet long x 4 ft wide. I grow daylilies, hosta, threadleaf coreopsis, Siberian iris, astilbe, rudbeckia and lady's mantle in this same space, and everything thrives fairly well. Very few violets in this bed, altho the lawn is full of the latter as are several of my other garden beds (NBD to me!). Overall, the periwinkle is well-behaved here. Probably due to the hardscaping.
